Hey Guys,
Well I'm to the last point before completion and hitting the water.
It was close to 2 years since I last dismantled the ski.
I had some issues with the choke butterflies, but Waterluvr and ocod got me thru it.
I figured I had the throttle butterflies set up right, in closed position while assembling, then I installed the springs and linkage. (stupid me NOT checking) I mounted the carbs and before assembling the plate, flame arrestor, etc, I gave the throttle a squeeze, and NOTHING. the cable pulled like I would be giving throttle, but it NEVER snapped back/returned. I obviously installed the springs incorrectly, and after about an hour in the dark trying to install the springs the correct way, I had to call it quits.

I looked in the repair manual, as well as tons of google searches and looking at the pics I took of the carbs before removing (the pics were so I could remember the gas line setup), I just CAN NOT figure this out for the life of me.

Does anyone have instructions/illustrations/videos/threads on how to PROPERLY reinstall the throttle springs?
Thanks a million...I'm so close I can almost smell that 2 stroke exhaust.

Nick when I get back to the shop I'll dig out some carbs and send you pics to show where the detents are for the throttle shaft spring ends.

Awesome Thanks! I also just printed the Mikuni manual from the carb adjustments sticky thread. It has a few black and white illustrations where I can kinda-sorta make out the setup. Real pics would help.
Thanks!

I sent them direct to you so you have the pics on your phone, this shows where they go on the throttle shaft and I'll put the pic here so other can find that at a later date.

Bad springs?

Thanks bob! Got the pics.. I have a feeling I did it right, but I think the springs are just too old and worn. Take a look at this pic. Look at the space between the spring and the spacer it rides on..
So did I do this right? It's got tension, and I can see it TRYING to snap back, but barely moves... It moves REALLY slow..
What do you guys think?image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Sorry pic loaded 4 times.
Bob, I'll try spinning it one more time around the shaft tomorrow

Also,
I just search all over ebay and the Internet, it says that the spring and bushing are discontinued.
Where would one purchase 2 springs and bushings?

pm @Minnetonka4me or @99spxxx
Parts will be less the shipping.
I think he has a minimum but maybe he'd make exception and be ~10 bucks?

Pm others like Matt Braley, @racerxxx, @Jetskigoodies.

Any of them may have excess parts laying around.
Matt is at least closer and likes to trade

Take off the spring and try it in your hand with a big screw driver as the shaft. You will know if it is that "old"

Bob,
do you have a cross reference/Yamaha PN for the bushing? They seem to call it a "ring" on the microfiche. Its PN: 270500192

THanks

I just got this from a 1999 GP760 and I'm about to order it. I think its the same as the SD
6K8-14534-10-00
COLLAR

Nevermind, I think to be safe, I will get this from a 1996 Wave Runner, #3 and #4 to be safe, as the spring is the exact cross reference # that Bob mentioned, I should go with the corresponding bushing/collar.
Thanks

So, NO ONE had the springs and bushing in stock. Finally found a dealer online that would have to order them and would even ship for over a week.
I went out this morning checked all the hw stores, Loews etc. No go.. Although I ordered the parts from the dealer, as a last ditch effort, I went outside this morning and preloaded the springs with pliers an additional TWO times, and BAM! Snaps back beautifully!
Got some kitchen remodel work to do today, but I think I'll be completing her tonight and giving it a go!
I'll post back the results.
Bob, thanks again for the idea!

Sorry I just saw your question regarding the bushing PN#, I'm just slammed with work this fall and there aren't enough hours in the day.

~So your all back together and good to go? Hit those springs and bushings with some grease and go ride it like you stole it! :)

I'm all back together! Put it back together from 10p- til 2a last nite!
Last thing I need to do is fresh gas and fire her up!

What are you waiting for!
I'm sure there was a gas station open at 2 am
:D

Do go too far from dock or make sure your with someone jik.
Check for leaks and stuff while on the trailer first.

I know! I was so close to going, but I've always ran NONethanol in that motor and I have to go to the marina off the island (when I lived in the keys, I had a non ethanol has pump 25 ft from my ski, I didn't even have to move the ski, the hose reached!)

Just for future reference...I do have all the parts you were asking for, but have a hard time believing the spring was sacked out...never seen it. I actually replace mine with softer ones for less finger fatigue.

Typically its the throttle cable needs to come out and get heavily lubed. I perfer Tri-flow myself...

yea, instead of pricking my finger a thousand more times, I used needlenose pliers and gave it an extra spin and it worked beautifully... I think it just needed to preloaded an extra time the entire time. I don't think I spun it enough. All is well now.
