For those of you who had to disable tops (perhaps you put a later engine with mechanical tops) I just wanted to clarify something. I put an 07 ski engine in a 2006 boat, which uses 2005 electronics.
I shorted the OTPS wire to ground.
I read that I need to put a 1500 ohm 1 watt resistor across the TOPS solenoid connector. I suspect this is to prevent the ECU from popping a code and going into limp mode?
I have NOT done that step yet. Took the boat out for a maiden voyage with the new engine, and got a check engine light. Speed was limited to about 35 mph.
My tach is not working for some reason, so I couldn't verify RPMs.
