A friend of mine has a 97 xp for sale.. Be bought it in may and only rode 1 hour. It's in mint shape.
My question is.. He says it wont go much over 30 and was real boggy.. It didn't have gas in the tank for 5 years prior to him buyin it..
What do you guys think it needs?
I don't wanna get into something that's gona lean out all the time and blow up!
Its the 800 motor and he wants 2500 with the trailer

Too much $$$ for a ski that doesn't run well.

Right now, it's hard to say whats wrong with it. since it was sitting for 5 years... minimum... it's going to need the fuel system cleaned, the gray fuel lines changed, the carbs cleaned/rebuilt, and the oil injection emptied, cleaned, refilled, and bled. Then, the RAVE valves need to be cleaned.

Also... since it as sitting for so long... I would check the compression, and leak down. If it was not properly stored, there could have been a lot of rust inside the engine. Very low compression, or a case leak will tell the tale.

Honistly... because it was sitting for so long, you have to approach it like it's a non-running ski. EVERYTHING needs to be checked.

Oh... also, the jet pump needs to be disassembled, and checked over.

I know it seems extreme, but it will make the difference of it living a long healthy life... or a few more hours of crappy running until it melts down.

If it was me buying it... I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for it. And that is assuming that it's perfect cosmetically, and the trailer is in good shape. That ski in good shape, and running well is only worth $2200

Wow $2500? That is crazy. I agree with Doc on what it probably needs just to get it running.

I wouldnt go over like 1200 to buy it. Way too many other machines out there in running condition cheaper.

If he wants to keep it and get it running, I would start with all new fuel lines and filters, and rebuild the carbs.

$2500.00 wow thats alot of money. i just scored a 95 xp for $150.00 with the 717 motor that runs great . all it needs is a seat and a good cleaning . and the guy threw in a 91 polaris 650 sl tripple for free but that one needs a motor but the hull and everything else on it is 100%.
