I have one 96 GTX that I know the electrical system works on. Of course I had to screw with the head and break some bolts so now I cannot run that ski. I have another 96 GTX that I cant get to do anything when I plug the lanyard in. Now I know the DESS keys are programed for each electrical box. If I swapped out the boxes would I also need to swap the lanyard posts or just the lanyards? I was thinking the post was universal but I was not sure if it was programed in any way to the key. Thanks for any info.

The key(s) have an imbedded magnetic code. A programmer reads that code and
puts it in one of the seven slots of the mpem. The post is only a conductor. Bill

So as long as I have the right lanyard for the box the post does not matter? That is awesome!!! Thanks man.

i swap these all the time...good to "pin point" exact problem. Lift compartment lid, removethe bin, the disconnect the connectors from the "grey box", then being color coded, removethe one from the other ski, and install the "known" good one. If you dont get anything, remove the seat, and lift out the lid to the black box, you'll need to disconnect the red cable from starter, or reach under carbs and undo from starter, so then you can swap that box w/ the "known" good one.

I swapped the boxes out yesterday and bingo, problem solved. The nonworking box has been taken apart before. There were no covers over the fuses and two of the tabs on the back of the grey box were broke. I also take one of the box boxes (dess I think) out and it had a sticker on the back that had 2001 on it. I am thinking this ski has not been ran in over a year, not just a year. When I took the airbox off you could just smell the bad gas unlike the other ski. I'm sure the insides of the carbs are toast! The guy I bought them from said the both ran great last year but I have my doubts. I did get it fired up for a few seconds but the battery was going dead. Now I need another system with the lanyard. I say with the lanyard because I refuse to take them to any of the Seadoo shops around here.
