Sudden stop

Was out riding the Jetski for about 2 hours. During a full throttle run the ski did a sudden stop as if I pulled the kill switch. Wouldn't refire, not even sputter.

Got towed back in and once back home. Checked for spark. Did compression test. Both checked out. 140 on both jugs as before.

Both plugs were dry despite me cranking and cranking on it. I opened the fuel cap and it had a huge auction on it. Attempted to start the ski and cranked for about 5 seconds before it stopped.

Now all I get is a loud clunk. Starter engages but doesn't turn the engine.

Very discouraged here!!

What's my next move here ?

Hmm Hang in there. Charge the battery and try to start it without the cap on. I assume the clunk is just a dead battery sound? With the plugs out can you spin it over by hand turning the PTO? Hopefully it will start. If so, there is a vent that lets air into the tank that is likely plugged.

No luck the starter engages makes a loud song but engine does not rotate.

I thing is I still got 140 psi out of both jugs

Will do tomorrow. It was cranking just fine until I put the plugs back in. Weird !

It's naturally harder to turn the engine with the plugs in due to compression. I suspect that your battery has very little charge or your starter has an issue.

If it cranks with the plugs out and no water or oil is pumping out that rules out something mechanical.
Typically if it won't crank with the plugs in but will with them out it is either a bad battery, cable or starter.

It was cranking with them in just fine. I think something internal is causing this but I'll eliminate some possibilities tomorrow.

I know that sound. It makes some kind of "cloc" like the starting engaging (your loud sound) and then you hear like some kind of whining sound but the engine won't crank (I believe the starter disengages). Like the other posters, I would suggest a battery problem. Have you tried a different battery? Also, you local mechanics can perform a load test on you old battery.

I had that last summer: after 10 seconds of cranking, the battery turned almost dead and the it resembled the sound you are describing. I had to replace it and issue was fixed. They seem to die suddenly.

Benji.

I pulled he cover from pto and with plugs out I can rotate the engine about 2-3" rotation before it stops.

Not able to fully rotate the engine.

What is next to check ?

How the effffff can I have 140 psi both jugs one second and then lock the next ?

Something stuck in impeller? Or engine dead (something stuck in a cylinder or rod bent)? I will leave the pros to answers that (I am not a mechanics).

Benji.

The starter could be stuck out on the flywheel. Pull the starter and plugs and try turning over by hand.

Starting easiest to hardest
1. Pull the pump as they are known to lock up.
2. Pull the starter as XP said it could be stuck.
3. The rotary gear could have a stripped spot. Pull the rotary cover.
4. Pull the head. Broken internal part, rod or piston.

Welcome to PWC. They will thrill you one minute and infuriate you the next. LOL.

No kidding man! My gf and I were riding the snot out of for hours and it ran like a top. Just when I think I have this thing dialed in (and to me dialed in is on the rich side!) and bam. I'm getting towed in. So glad it didn't happen to her!

See Post #14.

Start with the easiest and least invasive first. You might get lucky and have it be something easy.

Will do

Pulling pump involves removing the impeller and driveline correct?

Mag cover had multiple broken bolts.

Nope- just remove the stearing link and VTS rod if you have one. Then just the 4 bolts (nuts?) that attach the pump on. It may be kind of stuck so you may need to encourage it some. This would be a great time to replace the wear ring if you need one. And you may need a new neoprene seal when you put the pump back on.

You might want to get the carbon seal hat off so the driveshaft is ready to pull before you take the pump out.

Also the 97' GSI doesn't require the neoprene seal although some like to add it.

Step one. Pull pump and check if it's locked. Then the details. I'll get to this over the next few days.

I picked up that new f150. Twin turbo 2.7l v6 with 325hp. It's a BEAST! Makes more power than my 5.3l Silverado and gets 23mpg. I've been a little preoccupied with a new girl
