stuck open rave valve

Ive been reading alot on the forum about dirty rave valves that get stuck closed. I have not found anything that say what happens to engine performance when open all the time. The reason being is the boat I have had the a large part of the corner cut from the rave valve. Is there a reason the previous owner would have done this? Also this motor surges from 4-4.5k to around 6.5k on the water. Can it be from the valves?

if your missing the corner, then that valve caught the piston at one time, or got hot enough to break and/or from usage/neglect, caused it to break. Raves stuck open, will have just poor throttle response, but wont effect topend, considering at wot, they're then in the up position.

ok thx. I wanted to eliminate that from poss causing the problem im having. I do need to replace the valves and will soon. This boat has nickle and dimed pretty good the past few weeks

I ground mine a little too much when someone installed new pistons and forgot to clear the valves and what I notice is what seedooya said lack of performance on the low end but runs great wide open...LOL
