So I got out to test my new to me 1997 GTX. What a hoot had lots of fun.

Now I noticed it turned better to the left than the right. I had to decelerate and start the turn then hit the gas to get it heading to the right. Is there a setting I can adjust on the steering cable? I searched the forums but did not see any other posts on this.

If your ski handlebars steer straight when 1/2 throttle, its a natural tendacy, depending on the pitch. Adjustments are made by the steer column.
You have to take the front basket out to get to it. Its very easy, suggest you consult your shop manual for the pictoral instructions.

Ok cool thank you figured it would be a simple fix. I found a pdf of the manual online.

Find the steering cable support bracket and loosen the two 10 mm bolts, then rotate the black nut You will want to lengthen the cable to give more throw to the other side. Also, make sure that your through-hull nut is tight at the rear of the ski where the steering cable goes through.

Thanks for the tip will check that too.

So checked the nut at the back of the hull and it all fell out. Looks like I found my steering issue and the source of a slow leak. Now I need to find parts before the long weekend. Thanks BiRksS for the tip.

Is it common for that nut to come apart?

The outside nuts is a split nut with a retainer ring to keep the halves together on the steer cable groove, and on the inside is a flat washer and a nut you tighten the sandwiched thru hull. This makes it water tight. Use marine grease on these parts and the cable as preventive.

I called and ordered parts but it looks like there is no nut on the inside?

In the image there is the split halves a rubber washer and the nut. Nut was on the outside of my ski. Dont see the inside nut am I missing something? I wish I had another ski to look at LOL.

Thanks for the help.

You are right, you have the newer style clips. My mistake!

Oh ok perfect thanks again. I thought I was missing something. Takes 3 days to get the parts. If I'm lucky I will get them Friday just in time for the long weekend. Fingers Crossed. Us Canucks have to soak up the next few weekends before its time to winterize and hide in our iggloos. Would love to be in your neck of the woods right now LOL.

I'm in the same boat as you brother! Docks are coming in at the cottage the weekend after labour day!

I just had my steering cable apart. It goes, clips (little lips face towards the front of the ski), then the rubber insert thatkeeps water out of the cable, then rubber washer, then plastic nut. Hand tight, then i get another 1/4-1/2 turn with channel locks and it wont leak a drop!
