Stator question

I recently picked up a 93 seadoo spx with the 587 in it. I rebuilt the carbs, drained all the gas out of it and put new gas in it...she started. Compression is 140 both cylinders but when I hook up my multimeter to the battery it doesn’t do anything. When I shit the motor off it stays the same as it was when it was running, so I’m assuming I need a new stator. How hard is it to replace it when the motor is still in the ski? I really don’t want to remove the motor to do it...

What is the voltage?

You need to rev the engine above about 4,500 rpm for it to start putting out more than battery voltage.

Don't jump to conclusions and start ripping in to things when it comes to anything on the stator. I can't count the times customers brought in pwc, outboards, sleds all assuming the stator as a running problem when the culprit was outside of the motor. Stators are pretty simple. I wish I had taken a picture of what was left of the one I am using on my XP right now before I closed the motor up, ugly as anything but fires the plugs and charges the battery without a problem. It had corrosion, rust, warping of some of the core layers, I had to use emery cloth on the faces to get the flywheel to not contact the core.
