Mercury M2 Jet drive

Is it possible to change the stator oil without removing stator from jethousing?
I am thinking not. Anyone have any tips or things to watch out for when removing stator? Is there seals that should be replaced?

Its been about three years since I had my Merc Challanger but I wanna say yes you can change the stator oil without removing anything. Help me out here guys. I remember one drain near the impeller and one under the boat. My memory sucks!

I cheat and just put the shifter in the forward position and suck the oil out. A lot of people do remove it in order to service it though. It is a fairly straight forward job that takes about two hours in total. And yes there is a seal in the back of the stator that you have to be careful not to damage.

This is by no means a detailed break down, but just the very basics.

Remove both the shifter cable and the steering cable, and all hoses. Remove the ride plate, and then the bucket and nozzle in one chunk. Remove the four bolts that hold the stator.

When reinstalling be sure to coat all bolts liberally with Mercury special lube or some other water proof anti-seize compound, and refill the stator with 550ml of Mercury high performance gear lube.

when checking with the bucket in forward, do i have to put some loc tite or anything before putting the plug back in? it is the plug that sits on top correct.
 
I use thread sealer on all the drain and fill plugs any time I have to remove them.

Most of the posts indicate removal of the stator to change the lube. Could you please explain what you do for the quicker stator fluid change for the 2001 Challenger 2000.

What volume of lube will your method use?
 
Put the shifter in forward and use a fluid evacuator or pump to suck the oil out thru the fill plug. Once it gets to the level that is to low to remove any more pull the drain plug and do the same thing. Once you have all the oil out put some thread sealer on the drain plug and fill the Stator back up through the fill plug. Should take 550 ml. Replace the fill plug (with thread sealer on it) and you're good to go.

This works great for most of the time, but you should still pull the Stator every couple of years, or hundred hours to help keep things from seizing.
