OK, im sure this question has been asked before, but im looking to buy a new starter for my 99 SPX and i can save a lot of money by buying one off of ebay. Are these starters the real deal or will they not last as long as buying a good one from a dealer. Thanks in advance.

replaced one for customer, that he had dealer install an ebay one. Ran ski for a weekend, and it took a dump.

eBay starters are pretty crappy. We see a bunch of threads here saying they only lasted a few trips.

You are better off buying a used OEM starter... or just rebuilding yours. Normally you can take them apart, clean them, and replace the brushes. Last time I looked... you could get a rebuild kit for $30~$40.

Ok, because i had bought one and it took a crap after like 3 times out. I asked the guys who i bought it from and he said sometimes they let a bad one go every once in a while. And i thought that was kind of weird. So hes sending me a new one, and i will give it a try and if it does the same thing, i just might have to rebuild it myself. Any ideas where i can get one of those kits??

Ebay has them all the time. Just put in SeaDoo you will find the rebuild kits.
