Starter solenoid.

Put new starter solenoid in my 96 Sea-Doo xp and it still just clicking. What else could cause this??

Could a stuck starter cause this?

Can you turn the engine over by hand with the spark plugs out?

If you meter across the solenoid posts when you press the S/S button, does the battery voltage go through the solenoid? If so, then the problem lies beyond the solenoid......the next suspect is the wire from the solenoid to the starter and then the starter itself....

The click is telling you your ski sees the battery voltage, the button push wiring path is all connected, the solenoid MAY be working (the solenoid may click but if it is NOT passsing the voltage through it, it could be burned or carbonized internally - however, not very likely if its brand new)......keep following the voltage path through the solenoid through the wire to the starter....you are almost there.

If it comes down to the starter as the problem...the collective wisdom of the forum would suggest that rebuilding an OEM starter (assuming yours is still OEM) is better than any aftermarket replacement. A starter rebuild kit with brushes, misc pieces/parts is $20 something dollars, if you are that adventurous to take one apart (not that hard). Old, rusty starters can be cleaned up, painted and put back into service relatively easily if you have the gumption. AND always replace the cables while you are there even if they test out good, not expensive so why risk a future failure in the cable....clean all those connection points too (clean, bright, tight and dielectric grease are your friends).

Your actual starter (if you get there) may be a little different design wise but this is essentially what you'd be dealing with.....pretty straightforward.

So after looking over everything again. The starters negative cable was snapped where it was bolted to the starter. But the weird part is I could not find the cable ANYWHERE. So I put another one on and it’s back to normal. So weird!
