Hey guys, after my last ride, my ski(96 gsx) was running great for the first time after rebuilding the jet pump , I had it out once before after rebuilding the top end and carbs and the motor ran find but it was plowing through the water for way to long so I did the jet pump. So all of a sudden it started loosing power and I had to feather the throttle to keep it running to get back to the dock, when i turned the ski off, I heard a motor running in the engine bay, lifted the seat and the hull and alot of wather in it and the starter motor was just running without the landyard so i pulled the batter cable. When I got home, I tried to put the battery cable back on but the engine started cranking. I check the relay and it tested good but I put a new one in just to make sure, the start button, tested good. So what could it be? I even replaced the mpem but havent got it programed yet but when I touch the cable to the battery, it tries to crank???? Do you think water could of gotten inside the starter motor? Its got me stumped.

Hey now, I took the starter cable off and unpluged the start button but still when i touch the battery the solenoid clicks, no lanyard or start button. ??? I did replace the mpem and might of not got all them purple, tans, and reds just right so gonna recheck that along with the starter wireing in the rear electric box......

Yep... I'm going to say the MPEM is bad.

BUT... just for giggles... try disconnecting the start/stop button.

i did that too so its got to be mpem, it was a used one off the bay for $36, again proving you get what you pay for............just them new ones are $433, so if i buy that i will have over $1800 in this 15yr old ski, will i be able to get my money out of it???
