The early 787 had the 9 tooth and racers were burning them up so seadoo upgraded all to 8 tooth for more torque.
The aftermarket went to marketing calling the 8 tooth “high torque “ although it’s what Seadoo switched to from the factory.
BYW aftermarket starters are known to be junk.
