So the 1996 GTX starts up and runs now. This ski has a battery on/off switch. I use the switch when I am finished. When I go out to the ski and turn the battery switch to "on" the ski does not start right up. I am wondering if the delay is the system takes some time to power up.

Further checking and when I remove the DESS KEY and reinstall, the ski starts right up. I get no beeps but the beeper is functional. I am seeing the gauge lights (tach and speedo) flashing but I don't know what the light mean. :)

I checked the holder relay, the MPEM and replaced the DC CDI with used. The no spark issue was the Trigger and I also found one of the mag coils was open.

The hold relay is a concern but it has worked consistently every time I test it.

Input would be appreciated.

At present, it seems like the DESS Key or Post but I checked the heck out of these two components a couple weeks ago. The wrinkle is when I pull the key off and put it back in.... the ski starts right up. I let it sit a few minutes with the key installed and I get a "no start" again "nothing but red lights on the gauges". Then the ski will turn over and not start which is "No Spark" as I checked this condition. I remove and reinstall the DESS KEY and it fires right up.

I'm not complaining... I love this problem as compared to the other one. :) It RUNS !!! Yay !!

The DESS Key was cracked and I repaired it. Could it be the magnet in the key or a post issue. Something happens as it sits a few minutes and won't even turn over until I remove and reinstall the key.

Should I get beeps from my beeper even though I do not have the info center connected? I noticed the red lights flashing on the tach and speedometer an wonder if the number of flashes with regard to these lights correlate with the BEEPS I should be getting?

Also the red lights do not stay on for 30 seconds when I try to do the check. More like 5 seconds.

I remember seeing a wiring diagram that described the color of the wires and described the function. Does anyone have access to that diagram? I've checked the manuals I downloaded and other books. I should have printed it out... it was neat.

When I get home I think I can get a wiring diagram. PM me to remind me...

Thanks !! I am a bit confused about what is going on. At one point when I re-installed the DESS Key, I had the spark tester attached to the spark plug wire. Initially when I engaged the starter, the tester showed spark for a second then immediately went to no spark and stayed there. I pulled the Dess Key out, reinstalled and the ski fired right up.

Just trying to figure our what is doing on. I want to know exactly how the DESS works to determine the root cause of the problem.

When I leave the DESS Key in the ski for a few minutes. I will get a no start. The starter will not engage. I remove the key and re-install and the ski starts right up. Kinda weird but I'm sure there is a reason for it. The DESS KEY was split and I fixed it as suggested, tested it and never had any problems with the test. I wonder if the issue could be the key or the DESS Post, both of which tested "good" without fail.

Inquiring minds. LOL
