start engine to remove water?

I was putting my 08 speedster on the trailer today and a guy on with a seadoo pwc sugested to me I should always start the engine out of the water to remove the water from the engine. He said it would ruin the engine if I didn't blow it out. I run in fresh water always. Is this necessary?
Any Thoughts?

It is to get water out of the exhaust not the engine, and in fresh water it will not ruin anything. That said I do start my SKI's for 15 seconds or so after I pull them out to get as much water out of the system I can.

Blowout...

The only thing this guy is referring to is blowing out the water in your open loop system. It's not necessary if your going to backflush it when you get home. I will, by no means, ruin you open loop system.

Ignorance is rampant, thats why being a member on a forum like ours, is where you can find an answer to your question by hearing it from many.

If you like, as soon as you pull the ski from the water and open your drains, you can pop the engine on for a few seconds. It'll blow the water out. Which, after you flush at home, you should blow that water out also.........
