My '03 Sportster 4tec 155hp has a new rebuilt engine and a new starter. The starter was recently replaced in effort to fix hard hot start issue. The hard to start issue was there before the original engine blew. The last effort was a new battery. Currently, when hot, then engine will crank very slowly and sometime then fire and run. Sometimes it needs to cool for awhile. Any help? Thanks.

Posting wrong?

I have not received any replies to my post. This is my first attempt at asking for help. Anyone available with information? Currently, when hot, the engine cranks hard 2 - 3 times then usually fires right up. So, I am running, but uncomfortable with the hard start.

hey runner....just a thought, but maybe the woodruff key is off track with the flywheel, causing a bind in the bendix....

Woodruff key reply

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if this issue would have remained the same after installation of a rebuilt engine?

Thanks again. I have been living with the hard start until this weekend. I could not get the hot motor to turn enough to fire. Then the starter got so hot it began to smoke and melted the insulation on the positive wire. I let it cool all the way down and then it started again.

A hard starting 4 stroke.

Does it turn over slow when hot?

Does it turn over fast, just not fire?

What perzaktly do you mean?

we feed on details!

Nate
