I have searched and tried everything i have found with no luck thus far.

I have a 1998 speedster that i just rebuilt th pumps and cleaned the carbs, in doing so i put a trickle charger on and i think may be the cause of the issues.

I went to start the boat after everything was put back together and have issues ...

I found three blown fuses after looking at why it will not start. I no longer have a beep when i plug in the key however hear a click. I also no longer have lights and bilge (new and good fuses however were not bad)

what was once a beet is now replaced with a click and will turn over but no spark.

i blew the fuse for the radio in both the fuse block and also in the radio ...

i attempted to check the advanced electric check but without it beeping its hard to know what its doing.

both engines have the same no spark issue.

ideas?

i dont have a dealer anyplace close to me.

more than likely the mpem is burnt. did you leave the charger on it when you tried to start it? if you did that will be the cause. those things are way to sensitive to voltage. you would think they would have had some sort of protection for it.

so now i guess i have to try to find how to fix it / replace - anyone have any good ideas on this? I have seen conversations with the 5v issue - but dont know/think this will be the same thing.

hi am a newbie and just took my 1998 speedster out for the first time turned it off dont remember if i left the key on but would not start it cranks but no spark later that night found out the same problems that kyleohme has also no lights no beeps and no bilge pump but disconnected bilge wire and light switch does light up green so far kyleohme or anyone else that can help me all fuses are good the ones on mpem the 3 running out of battery wires and each of the 15's on coils have not seen any behind the gauge cluster harness could any one help for this fix i dont mine paying for some well reputable knowldge to get me back to water am new and dot want to give up my new fins at least not jet

i did trickle charge the battery and it will crank over on both motors battery looks fairly new radio works floor lights work and blower fan also what is scary is that i attempetd to make it self diagnostic by pressing start button 5 times and inserting lanyard i get no diagnostic beeps at all an like a mention it does not blow fuses on module slot but i dont get any power on gauges or engine control noe bilge pump fuse slots

so has kylehome found a solution to this problem i dont get it spoke to a local ski shop and said that its sounds like ai need to replace my mpem but he then also stated that there isnt a diagnostic test for this does anyone in the los angeles inland empire san diego are willing to test my mpem on there boat and see the results i beleive phildoo you had you previous mpem only sparking on one enegine form post i have searched so that means that if dont have a blown fuse mpem could still be the problem

I am curious how guys with the 98's are frying the mpem with a charger. Did you have the battery switch off? With the switch off, nothing should be able to back feed past the switch.

I have only charged mine once. I disconnect the MPEM so no chance of frying it. The chances of finding a MPEM are so slim anymore and getting a new one is even slimmer. All parts are discontinued. My problem was no start on one engine but when we jumped the solenoid we had no spark.

Everyone once in a while i have come across them on ebay. I just wanna take every precaution not to fry mine. I just dont see the logic of how the system can get damaged with the battery switch off. I charge both my batteries but i have the charging port wired directly to each battery and with the switch off it should not get anywhere past it. Its worked fine for 3 years but now im wondering how the others had problems.

Yea there seems to be a run on mpems smokin. The engine heat warps the MPEM really bad. My new one was perfectly flat. There are more fuses located up in the hull on the right side of the engine compartment. They're not visible so you have to crawl or feel up there to find them. They are wired in the loom but don't know where they go to though. I found them by accident during my MPEM diagnosis.

Oddly enough I never had any blown fuses. I'm not quite convinced it's the MPEM yet. If your sure the battery is full then try the DESS post and lanyard next.

help is any one in southern california willing to test my mpem on there boat since there is no diagnostic to the mpem on my boat is what local shop told me wet enterprises in upland ca he told me sounded like a bad mpem also a customer threw work who is very knowledgeable in electronics he went to school for and fixes car and club car golf cart computers is going to have a crack at the insides of mine to see how they work but before i give up i wanna test mine on some one elses boat that way i am not risking theres on my boat i will compensate money for the favor and as far as testing the DESS how you go about it i have no beeps coming form it only cranks both engines and anybody have experience with member (All Things Custom) he says he can repair also but called him left a message doesnt answer and sent him an email and is he still in corona ca or is he now in bullhead city arizona let me know what you guys know and thanks for the help

at least i did get towed in by seadoo ski and not a jap ski but still embarassing :-( one of the nicest looking boats out at the lake and no go

Let's get the beeper fixed first. Radio shack carries them. They're cheap. They are notorious for going out. Get a new one on so you can hear how many beeps you have.

it does not beep no more when inserting lanyard to dess and does not beep if i attempt to go on diagnostic which i read is by pressing one of the start buttons 5 times and then inserting lanyard to dess i get no beeps

The Radio Shack part no. for the buzzer is 273-068. I really think you have another issue besides the mpem. Clean your DESS post and lanyard.
