speedometer issue/mystery

My speedometer in my 08 speedster 150 has quit working. Visual inspection doesnt show any damage to the wheel or the housing, I did look behind the instrument cluster and there appears to be a missing hose behind where I would think the cable would attach. Is this connection merely an air hose? If so, I wonder where in the heck it is at. There is no sign of any loose hoses or wires. If this is the issue where would I look for it to be at this point. I cant believe it would just spontaneously disappear.
