Hey Guys,

I was doing my winterizing and am down to the fogging. I pulled the ignition coil, and the hole is deep and looks like it needs some cleaning. My question is, what should I use to clean out the hole and what size socket do I need for the spark plug? if it is standard size , then I have one, but am not sure.

I would just blow it out with the air compressor using the air chuck (that's why I do). I also use an extension on the spark plug socket, I'm pretty sure the socket size is 14mm, in your kit it will be the small (or narrower, longer one). On a side note, with boats its a bit hard to put them in "drown mode". As in with skis you can hold the throttle wide open and hit the starter, as long as your at wide open throttle the starter will turn the motor but will disable ignition coils and fuel injectors. With boats its a pain in the ass (if your by yourself anyway). So what I do is disconnect the ignition coils and disconnect the fuel injectors. Pull the fuel rail and spray the fogging oil in each fuel injector hole while turning the motor with the starter. I give each hole about a 10 count while spraying each hole. I use this method to ensure that the exhaust valves get lubed up. When you just spray in the spark plug hole you get the rings lubed but don't get a hole lot of fogging oil through the exhaust ports. It just kinda blows back out of the spark plug hole. So that's why I leave the plugs in and fog through the fuel injector holes. Sorry about the long story btw but hope it helps.

Just a follow up, you will see a check engine light with this method while your cranking, but come spring when you start it with the injectors and coils hooked back up the check engine will automatically clear.

Ok- thanks for the insight. I can give that a try and it does sound simpler. will try tomorrow. I will however need to pull the plugs in the spring regardless so I will check on my plug sockets.
