So I go to Ebay to pick up some spare spark plugs and it seems like there is more than one BR8ES, some say resistor some say non-resistor. What the heck

David, you need resistor spark plugs, NGK BR8ES, you can get them at Advance or Auto Zone, probably less than EBay.

To expand on that,, you do NOT want to mix those two up. The MPEM does not like it and the ski will not run properly.

What I think is stupid is why they would have the same number on both???!!!

check which version of the br8's you have...

I think the br8es had two versions the 3961 solid tips and the screw on hollow tips were the 5542's .. am I wrong ?

both labeled Br8es tho... ?

I always was told to buy the 3961 solid tips...and have for years. (i probably still have half a box of them in my garage stashed on a shelf)

You have just cleared up the mystery I think! I seem to have bought the 5422's with the screw on top, the 3961's must have been what was confusing me on e-bay

Yes, there are 2 different BR8ES models. The 3961 model number has solid fixed tip ( order this one ) and the 5542 model number has the screw type tip. They come loose cause these little engines vibrate alot. Get the 3961.

Just keep them, if you don't tighten the cap it MIGHT loosen up. A wrench and a pair of pliers any your done. I've never had one issue. Also don't forget to gap the plugs. If people just take plugs from the box to the engine without checking anything your just asking for problems.

David, as racerxxx said either plug is fine, I've always just used what the auto parts store had in stock. The plugs both have exactly the same characteristics, the only difference is the nut at the top of the spark plug, personally I have never had one loosen up, but if you are concerned just roughen up the threads a little and put the nut back on.

Lou

My only concern now is that my part number is 5422 and other people in the thread are calling them 5442?
