So I finally got the jet pumps finshed and installed...everthing looks good for a run this weekend. Thing is , when i fire up the port engine i get a loud rattle sound coming from something. I checked the mounts, drive line, ect but cant find where its coming from. I know the pumps rattle some but this is kinda loud...anyone have any pointers?

When out of water there is no load On the impellers. This allows them to bounce back and forth against the thrust bearings. Creating the rattle sound. They all do it.

you will hear it at idle in the water too so don't panic when you put it in the water. If the rattle decreases with a bit of throttle don't wprry about it.

never heard anything good about the anti-rattle kit. everyone who tried it said it was a waste of time and money.

I installed an anti-rattle kit when I was young and dumb, couldn't tell any difference except in my wallet. If it bothers you set the idle up to about 1600-1700rpm, that's what I did.

Jake, see what I mean above?

From what I have read about these anti-rattle kits, they were made for pumps that did not come with the spring & pusher originally in the cone, they are for pre 96-97 model pumps. So yes, buying a anti-rattle kit for a pump that already has a spring & pusher from the factory will solve nothing.
So now that I know its nothing to really worry about...I can now focus on how to quiet
that damn annoying sound lol.

About the only thing you can do is adjust the idle to around 1600-1700 rpm. You'll still be well below no wake speed.

That was in my wifes when we bought it started smelling plastic burning and noise. Took cone off and the spring was in a ball of metal on the side and the plunger was melted. Got a regular cone off a friends doo he was parting out. Put it on never had a problem since. I didn't realize it was a anti-noise thang till now.

I've found the best thing to if your wife's begins to smell like something is burning is to slow down and apply lubricant.
