Ski module or cruise module?

We invested in a 2012 GTI 130 SE last summer. Our favorite thing to do is drag the kids around on a tube or pull them on skis. Because it is so responsive to the throttle, skiing was difficult, but I thought the ski module would be the perfect fit for us!

I'm not certain which one I need though. P/N 295100455 is shown as a Crusie and Ski module and appears to add another set of "buttons" to the right side of the handlebars. P/N 295100432 is listed as a Ski Module and looks like it simply plugs into the diagnostic connector.

We probably won't do much long cruising so the "Cruise" part would rarely get used. My goal is to be able to set a launch preference and then set the top speed the skier will go while I still have the throttle all the way down without having to "feather it" every time I start to turn. (I want to program the max speed and then squeeze the throttle all the way down and let the computer govern the launch and then engine speed needed to keep a set ski speed.)

Can anyone enlighten me on whether the Ski Module (295100432) alone will accomplish what I'm trying to do?

Thanks,
Jay

Thanks, Chucked!

I was fairly certain the Cruise module would do that, but I'm trying to determine if the Ski Module alone will do what I need. It's a little bit cheaper and the install looks to be simple plug and play rather than needing to run wires to the handlebars to add buttons and etc.

I contacted my local Sea Doo dealership where I bought the ski and was able to get a "fuzzy" answer.

They said the Ski Module (295100432) alone would do what I wanted to do, but I would have to go through the menu to get to it, but the Cruise/Ski Module (295100455) would add buttons on the handlebar to let me quickly access the feature.

Can a Sea Doo expert on here confirm that? Will going through the menu to get to the Ski Mode really be that much more difficult?

I have the ski module on my rxt 260. You are correct it does plug into the diagnostic plug and a couple wires into the fuse block. Simple install the directions are very clear. I had it in about 30 minutes. It’s not hard at all to get to the ski mode through the menu. I use the ski mode if I’m pulling a wake border. There are 5 different settings to pull a skier or wake boarder up smoothly. The cruise control is nice to have if you have a long ride and you don’t want your fingers to hurt trying to hold a certain speed. I also use it for pulling a tube. Since you’re not planning on long crisis the ski module will do just fine.

Thanks, blur826!

Does the ski module also let you set a maximum speed and just hold the throttle down to maintain it? That's really the biggest problem we have. The driver wants to turn and look at the skier and tends to let off the throttle causing the skier to sink.

You can set a lower speed then what each " ramp mode" has pre programmed
Look in your operator's guide under operating modes for better instuctions

Sorry my scanner sucks

Thanks blur826,
That answers a question for me as well!!! I am trying to do the same thing myself.

Jay- have you learned how much this option costs? I'm currently in another thread, trying to decide between a Wake and RXT-X260.
thanks for your help.

Finally time to update this thread. Just when I was on the verge of buying, I called my local dealer and planned to support them if they had it in stock. The guy I spoke to said that the Ski Module alone would not allow me to set a top speed and maintain it with the throttle held in. He was adamant that I MUST have the Cruise/Ski module to do that. I mulled on it for a day, but finally went ahead and ordered the Ski Module from J&M Camper. (Local dealer didn't have Ski Module anyway.)

It took me around an hour to install, but that was because I spent 30 minutes fishing out little pieces I had dropped that went down in to the ski. (Magnets just won't do the trick retrieving them.) Fairly simple install with good instructions in the box. Fairly easy to do if you are somewhat mechanically inclined.

We finally had the chance to test it this weekend and I've got to say it may just be the best $130 I've ever spent! We were mainly using Ramp 3 and the ski was pulling teenagers and even me right out of the water. Contrary to what my local dealer said, I could set a maximum speed and even adjust it while pulling the skier! This made it very convenient to find the speed they liked to be pulled. We even used it for pulling a tube with the smaller ones that weren't up to trying to be slung to their death at 60 mph. Simply set the max speed and tow them around. If you make a turn and lose speed, the engine will rev up to compensate.

As you can tell, I'm very pleased with the Ski module. We don't use the ski for long rides so the Cruise/Ski module was spending more than we needed to and extra time to install.

Thanks for all of your help!

Glad you bought that Module and not the other one.:thumbsup:I've found most dealers don't know much about the add on Modules.:banghead: I've found more info about accessories on line. Best of luck.

I did the combo module, some areas I go to have long no wake zones, so the slow speed mode is very handy as I am quite lazy on the weekends, and holding that throttle for 5mph is just beyond my motivation level :)

Depth finder is totally separate that wires right into the fuse block. Ski Module plugs into the wire harness. It can be piggy backed with say the Riva speed control override Module

Any new information on this topic.

I'm interested in the ski/cruise module, but my dealer doesn't seem to know much about it.

Is it a easy install? Do you have to modify the handlebars?

Do-it-yourself or dealer install?

Thanks!

What model do you have?

Haha never mind should have looked at your profile. Just plug and play. No mods to your handlebars 15 min install

I'm picking up my new 2014 rxtx 260 on Friday.

So the module just plugs in and no additions are made to the handlebars. Just uses existing buttons?

Yes it uses existing buttons. There is 5 different "ramp modes" you can set the top speeds. When it's plugged in you push the mode button once and the display will come up with ski mode. Hit set and choose the "ramp of your choosing. And hit set. Takes a little practice

awesome...thanks.

Hi Guys, Sorry to bring up an old topic but I would like to add the cruise control to my 2012 RXT X. Please let me know what part number is needed. I know 2 different numbers are listed above but I am not sure they are the right one for a 2012. Thank you in advance.

Cheers
Matt

Matt
you need part #295100455 since the RXT X doesn't have a cruise control button on the right side contols. Its blocked off under the set and down button.
