I am looking at buying a set of Skat-trak Swirl impellers for my utopia. I talked to the people at impros.com and they recommended the 12/16 3 blade for my boat. I am at 7000 ft elevation so I need to get the boat set up for that. Does anyone in the know have any arguments with that selection?

I know I have seen a few different times on here that people have said they put them in their boat. So I am looking for some feedback on rather you feel you got your money's worth out of the upgrade or not? What changes in performance did you experience?

Anyone interested in picking up two 98% perfect stock impellers for less than half cost of new, shoot me a PM! I would like to take a bite out of some this upgrade cost by selling my stockers.

I hate to see things go unanswered... so.....

The problem is, by mid summer, most people get a little tired of "Opinion" questions. Especially when the person doesn't get the answer they want to hear... so they ignore the opinions posted.

Also, since the traffic is much higher during the summer, people are busy posting on threads where people need help, and they skim over the opinion questions. If you ask this question in the middle of winter... you will have 10 responses in an hour.

And finally, there are a 100 threads on what impeller to use. I'm not going to be the guy who says "try the search function"... but, search.

I'm not flaming, I'm just giving reasons why no one has posted.

OK... are Skat-Trak swirls worth it? Well... it depends what you are looking to achieve.

The swirl impellers are the best "Out of the hole" impellers, but they will normally scrub a few MPH off the top.

So... there you have it... the choice is yours. Personally... If I had to pay retail for 2 impellers... I would say no. If you find a good deal on them... or if your factory impellers are dead, and need replacing... then I would say, yes.

FYI... clean used factory impellers are only worth about $25 each. I know if you have to buy one new, they are expensive... but there are a ton of people who upgrade their impellers, so there are used factory impellers every where. I personally have about 10 OEM impellers sitting on the shelf because they aren't worth selling, and they are good for an emergency backup.

Just an FYI... I have swirl impellers in my boat, and my Polaris Genesis (big 4 passenger ski) But I have a Solas concord in my Si.

I think skats are great, impros knows best. But When I replaced mine[don`t have the same boat as yours]I checked deep into the heart of e-bay and contacted a large seller in AZ. The auction wasn`t the right impeller for me,he wrote back. Then he ran a buy-it now for the one that was.I ended up with a new solas XO for half as much as I see them going for. Made a really big differents in boat performance.Would have been just as a happy if it would have been a skat. Also what I understand skats are better in heavy chop, solas have better topend on glass.

I lost a couple mphs off the top end, but hop out of the hole immediately. That is what I wanted, so I was willing to lose the top end to get my but out of the water on a wakeboard efficiently.

I used Dave at Impros, and his suggestion was spot-on.

Thanks for the replies guys! My goal is to get get more umpf out of the hole for wakeboarding and to get my big butt up on ski's. It really struggles right now and I am yet to be able to get up on ski's. So it sounds like the Skat is the best choice for what I want. I know I am way over propped for my high elevation. I can usually only turn 6800 rpms instead of 7100-7200 RPM's

While you are swapping, look at wear ring and replace if needed. Look for .040 or less gap between impeller and ring and smooth ring surface.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with how well it hooks.

My single engine boat went from 5-8 seconds to plane to 2 seconds or so.

Mine is a much different boat. But i did see that kind of improvement. That was impeller and ring replacement. But it was an immediately apparent improvement that me and everyone in the boat felt.
