Shop storage unit double stack two X4's and an HX

So a while back last year a Seadoo sling harness was posted on the Florida classified thread. OCOD got it hooked up and had it shipped to me. So my intentions were always to build a rack storage system. Well I finally got around to doing it and now ALL my running skis are indoors plus a project. So I snagged some 4x4's from my pop and I had some cross rails from industrial shelving/racking that I modded for the cross rails. Some cutting, welding, and drilling this is what I came up with. The rack is 51 inches deep to accommodate an X4 under it on a short cart. The uprights are fastened to the walls, just need to put a Red Head nail anchor into the concrete to get the last column anchored to the ground. I used my 2 ton engine lift and the seadoo harness



The test flight, I used a "disposable" ski just in case it drops, LOL. I have a 2x10 laying across the rails and bolted down then I set the ski on that and blocked it with 4x4's on the side to hold it still.

Then I went for the 96 since it seemed safe.

The HX was a PITA cause it's nose heavy and the seadoo straps won't reach over the bars and the aluminum lifts would hit the hood. So I lifted the hood all the way open and lifted it all the way into position--very hairy at first.

All 3 are tucked away, now I will pull my 58 Bug back in and that will sit in front of the skis. This is the most nerve racking part of the entire project. I think I'm going to run cables to the skis just in case and have them hooked the the ceiling

There is about an 1-1/4" of space over the bar pad to squeak the 95 under.

But I'm always worried when I lift a ski up high. I dropped one once. (Strap broke)
 
Well done Dan, looks great and functional. i guess the upgrade would be an eye beam on the ceiling with a winch, but unless your moving every day not really worth the effort.

BTW is that a hydro trailer upstairs, or the makings of one?
 
That's good stacking man. That 95 looks tight in there and when it has the pump hanging out the back.....

I'm working on getting a real garage myself. Of coarse there is a house and yard and whatnot but I'm excited about the garage.

I do have a brand new hoist I could use but I think it would be way too hairy. Nope, not a hydrotrailer. That my friend is a mint all steel bellypan and bulkhead for my 79 Motoski Supersonic. Just one more of my many projects.

You of all people need a shop! My shop is ever evolving and this is just the next rendition. I really need to wrap this up as my bug is in my wife's garage and the kids are freaking me out just walking past it.

Oh and as far as the pump hanging out.....my lay out was to put the 96 down there with the shorter pump.

Thanks Adam. The 95 is slowly getting there. I'll finish it over the winter, hopefully.
 
Always envied a friend who had an overhead trolly system and electric hoist. We used it once to load a bunch of snowmobiles sideways for a trip to Yellowstone. Would work great for watercraft.
 
Impressive brother. I agree with the safety cables in the ceiling, you never know when a random 'earthquake' (though rare) shakes things up and one of the skis starts to slide.

Thanks Sports. Now I can keep most of my toys under one roof. Still no room for the boat so that sleeps in the neighbors barn. Hope nothing gives out cause I'd have to sell the skis to fix the car again.

LOL, it was from the local Ford dealer here, it was double sided and rotated. That was a rouge phone call from a buddy one day, "Hey, you interested in a huge Ford sign?" and the rest is history. I'm thinking of hanging it on the front of my shop and back lighting it. It does block the one window, but so does the huge box with the cowl hood in it.

Yep 86 K10. Fresh 3fiddy with a built 700r4 4:10 gears with 35's on 6" lift. Rebuilt the engine(everything) and put about 4-500 miles on it I think, brand new under the rail bed liner, diamond plate bed rails, diamond plate tailgate liner brand new diamond plate work box and that was on top of 2 new doors, fenders and the dual cowl hood and new tail gate, shorty headers into custom 304 stainless exhaust no cats with stainless 40 series flowmasters--yep the loud ones. Drove to my parents one day and the front hardline blew out for the brakes. Drove it to where you see it rolled the ignition back threw the keys on the floor and walked away. Came home and cancelled the insurance. DONE! It's sat there for the last 8 years, old man fixed the line and he uses it around the farm from time to time.

The cowl in the box is brand new un-painted just a regular cowl (not a dual cowl like mine) for my dad's rollback which we never finished, still got new doors, fenders and fender wells for that. I started with a 77 cab and cut the floor completely out then bought a MINT 87 2wd surburban and diced the floor from that, then cut the hood hinges and grafted them onto the 77 cab (up to 80 the hood hinges were on the fenders, 81+ they bolted to the cowl), then I cut the firewall and grafted in the heater box for A/C since the 77 cab was non-A/C. The firewall is different between the two. All I need to finish is the cab corners and rockers. Even have a brand new Lund visor. Pop's ran short on money so we back burnered the cab. If you look at old pics where my XP and HX are is where the green cab was for 3 years. I have no clue on how much time I invested in that cab but now it's cherry, every weld was done at a factory seam so you can't tell I replaced it hardly.

I always wanted to do an extended cab 81-87 K10, the regular cab just doesn't have quite enough room for me. Not enough room to tilt the seat back to my liking. You can see my old 85 GT back there, sold it to a guy and he wrecked it a month later and I bought it back for the storage fees. I left a good 5 speed in there and a 3:73 rear and a stout 5.0 roller motor, but I had already taken the good ignition, carb and other suspension goodies.

Hope you've got that big sign wired up good n' tight to the wall, my luck it'd fall on my vee-wee. Charp one, not many of those around anymore.

Yeah the sign is held to 1/2" ply with 8 drywall screws, the ply is held to my garage upright with 2, yes 2, 1/4-20 screws. Hope it holds. It took me a boat load of man hours and waaaay too much cash in parts and paint to get it to where it is today. This is day one how I bought it. Notice there is no ragtop in the original pics. Yes, this is the same car. Another car donated it's life to fix the back of this one. Pics didn't turn out too bad for scans of real photos. This was roughly 98ish and I finished before my son was born in 04.
