Hello everyone! I appreciate all of your advice and help. The repair shop is telling me that the supercharger on my 2005 RXT can't be rebuilt, but has to be completely replaced for $1500. Does this make sense?

I think he said that it's because the supercharger has seized up.

Why would it have to be replaced and not just rebuilt? I rode it for about 15 mins and noticed the rpm/speed changing alot. Turned it off and it wouldn't start back up.

Thanks for your advice and help everyone!

With the above mentioned symptoms...fluxuating speed/rpm and no restart.....you bring your boat to a dealer and he tells you....what?...sc is gone and has to be replaced?

You try anything to get it fired up? did you check anything before handing it over to him? Is it far away? I'd take it back...pull the sc myself and find out how bad the stealership is bllshtting you. You could buy a brand new sc and install it for about half what that guy wants to rape you for.

If it is in fact seized up, there is a good chance the housing is or would be damaged in the tear down. HOWEVER, it is rare that they do seize up. I would go to the dealer and ask to see the SC.

Is it off already? Or are they just at the diagnostic stage?

don't tell the stealership you're going to visit. When he says it's still in the motor...but that it's frozen in place...the wheel ain't supposed to move but a tick.

so....

One last thing...when an sc touches down....it doesn't do it a lil ata time ie...no varying rpm/speed issue. It's a catastrophic event...one sec it's on...then next it's off...no cranking...no engine movement at all.

Tell you what we can do....if you send the supercharger to me I'll check it out for free for you. Worst case, it's truely damaged to the point you can't rebuild (unlikely), and you'll need a new supercharger (which we can get you for FAR less than $1500). Best case, it can be rebuild and we charge the $415 for the supercharger rebuild service.

I'm not too sure if it's off yet. I'm going to the shop to look at it tomorrow morning. What should I look for to know it's irreplaceable?

the wheel will have touched the housing sending aluminum dust into the throttle body and intercooler. the bearings will be gone or....misplaced...

By their own words according to you, "it is seized..." So look for that. Seized means it will not move, as in spin..
Two things..
1). JoeZ mentioned in post #5 what I believe to be the best thing for you to do.
2). As Red2Blue mentioned, it isn't suppose to be able to be move by hand easily at all. That is the first test most do. Remove the hose, reach in with your fingers and TRY to spin the SC. You should be able to move it but VERY hard and only a little bit.

Making sure I understand what you're saying. The wheel shouldn't be able to move when I try to spin in while it's still attached?

correct....the blade will move but a 1/16" at most. A seized wheel won't move at all...and there will prolly be an off center feel to the blades in relation to the entrance.

Remember...for a wheel to seize...the bearings or bearing cage will be gone.

Again..what you discribed does not sound like a seized wheel.

How long have you had the ski?....history...maintenance...ect?

Thank you all very very much for all of your advice! I bought it used a month ago and have been on it twice. It is a 2005 rxt with 83 hrs. Not too sure with the maintenance. I anticipated the rebuild when purchasing it, but never thought it went up this much! I'm going to pop in tomorrow to his shop tomorrow to inspect the sc.

anytime...

Were you ever able to get it to 8100rpm at wot? If not...were you able to get it to...6000rpm?

When you say it wouldn't start back up...do you mean it wouldn't even crank?...no starter relay clicking?

I was talkin about an oem sc w/housing.

Why rebuild?...because I can get my sc rebuilt for around 4 and a quarter...w/ upgraded washers...no matter what wheel is in the housing.
