I would like to know what to do to get my boat shiny. It is pretty chalky and i want it to shine if possible. Any secrets / tips to get it to look like new?

Oxidation....

Sounds like you got some oxidation build up on your fiberglass.....you can go to your local auto supply store and they sell a complete line of cleaners for the fiberglass hulls.
Now, it's pretty easy, you just rub it on, let it sit a spell, then wipe it off.

G'Day,
Just bought a container of wash and wax, hope it works, will let you know.
When i first got my boat, I gave it a full cut and polish and it came up a treat.
Haven't had to polish it again since, just hose it off, and wash with soapy water.

Be careful on gelcoat that you don't do the high speed buffer method. The gelcoat is thicker than regular automotive paint, but it cuts down quicker than paint. I would recommend you use a 6" polisher to bring back the finish after you use a cleaner from the local boat supply company. I'm not sure what is available in you area. In the USA I would go to west marine and ask for some advice on cleaners to restore if it is real bad condition. I also follow up every couple months with a Teflon wax and use a terry cloth to remove the wax.
