I have been told a rebuilt crank is required to fix this and was quoted 500 dollars for one does this sound right? what keeps the gear on the crank? is it just press fit? or is there supposed to be a snap ring or something there to keep it from moving?

Anyone? any ideas appreciated, I don't know why this happened and do not want it to happen again after fixing it.

Thanks

They're press-fit.
The crankshaft is the weak point of the Rotax...

You should be able to find a used one for a lot less and have it trued at a shop that specializes in crankshafts.

Look around here or on e-bay.

It's a press fit. Something must have got caught in the rotary valve to stop it from turning.

Nice avatar, Chester... :)

Can't think of anything that could have got in there...

I'd still have the used one trued before rebuilding the engine...
