I've owned a 1998 speedster for 6 years now. I've had it serviced once a year and take really good care of it. Last year the right engine really started to cavitate. It takes for ever to get the boat to plane out, and if you have more then 3 people in the boat, it won't plane at all. We took it in and told them the problem. Here is a list of the work done on the boat.
2 new wear rings = $134
new carbon ring and bellow = $80
new drive shaft protector = $17
complete carb cleaning and service.
The total price for the job was $2239 with labor!!! I took the boat up to the cottage and it was no better then before. It still cavitates just as bad. Needless to say the company that worked on it and I had some words and I won't be taking it back there. I really want to do the work myself and fix it. I've looked over a lot of the posts and I'm trying to figure out what the problem could be. It seems like they did most the things suggested in the posts. What else do you guys think it could be??

Sounds like you changed everything. The only things I can think of are:

1) The ride shoes are leaking, and need resealed to the hull.

2) The impellers are so bad that they are inducing cavitation.

3) Driveshaft protectors don’t help. Group-K tells people to cut them off.

I would be pissed too if I spent $2k and it was just as bad as before. I would find a friend that can help you out, and at least verify that they did put in all the new parts they said they did… then I would demand a partial refund on the labor since they didn’t fix the problem… then take the boat somewhere else for the repairs.

Good luck

I would look at the impeller, back side of the fins will have burn, pot holes.... this in itself will start cavitation and the more it cavitates the more they will pot making it worse....

agree with the doc

have gone through the entire propulsion system on my boat. You are either sucking air or bad impeller (indcuing air in the thrust).
