Hi all,

I have a gtx Di engine that tore up the front piston. I have been trying to find a good shop to send to and it was a complicated decision.

I emailed SES and others to understand the cost, warranty, quality........


Tom at SES called me back quickly, seemed to know his stuff, claims to never have worked as an employe of east cost cycle. 2 year warranty, guaranteed turn around time, at a good cost.

I have sent my motor to him and will post my results.
 
what kind of turn around are they guaranteeing these days ?

he seems to have gotten his act together re: turn around based on other posts.
 
This is my second year on a SES rebuild. It runs like a stuck pig. Very happy with it. Had it out today and it ran flawlessly.
 
Great! Tom has been great so far. Seems to really know his stuff.

He has told me 10 days in the shop.

I'll keep you posted. If he is truly doing well I would love to give him the positive feedback.
 
Ok guys, I got my motor back from seadDoo engine shop (SES) after less than 10 days.. It looks sweet and he really did great. I needed to find a new head and even with the delay he met the target date..

Jm installed it today and will let you know how it runs. So far so good.......

Have you measured the compression? I'd like to know how much it blows once it's officially broken in (before 1st fire would be interesting too!).

And sometimes a malfunctioning injector can be the root cause of a piston failure (aside from the usual wear found in a high hour 2-stroke engine, of course).

That's funny. I probably sent my motor in before that and still haven't gotten it back yet. Looks like I'll be calling him back tomorrow
 
I am more of a lurker than a contributor to this board. First off, Thank you Ladies and Gentleman. I have read a wealth of knowledge on this board and I appreciate everything you have contributed. With that being said,

I wish you all the best luck with SES. I sent the engines from my 96 speedster to him in APRIL and I only received one back so far. I called and left messages and sent emails asking for updates and the most I got was radio silence. Not until I would leave a condescending voicemail would I be called back. The last voicemail I had left was on Friday September 26th. I have not heard a peep. The last I talked to him, I was eventually told that the second engine was shipped not long after the first one and UPS lost it and he was going to file a claim, this is back in the beginning of summer. While he worked that he was supposedly going to pull an engine off the shelf (that they said they didn't have when I sent my engines in) and send it to me, ASAP. When I shipped my engines to him, they made it overnight. I am 2 1/2 hours south of his shop. The engine never came, I called and he said it will ship soon. Its now October and I still don't have the second engine. I was originally told by the owner that the turn around is 12 weeks. They still owe me either a premium 717 or my $850 and my engine back. I am tired of calling and leaving messages for them not to be returned. The "Contact Us" on their webpage is useless. I have sent messages through that and I never did get a response to any of them. Most of those messages dealt with the break in procedure for the engine I finally did get. I am still debating on going to his shop and demanding a premium 717, my money and my core back or just say screw and let the State Police handle it. I'm not saying you shouldn't use him, I am just letting you know of my experience so far. Like I said, good luck.
 
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I believe some here have a personal contact with SES. Maybe one of them can get you a good point of contact and some reliable answers.
 
I forgot, he did say at one point I needed a head and possibly a cylinder in a voicemail he said he left me. I cant quite remember, its been that long. I was starting to think those 2 parts are made of unobtanium. The times when I did talk to him, I was always courteous and never lost my temper. He does have my money and my motor, after all. So, I have no idea what the deal is. I have a ton of time in restoring the boat so it would be a shame not to be able to get it back together.
 
If it was me & ses was that close, I would have jumped in my vehicle & went for a ride a while ago. Lost in shipping is almost impossible. NOT impossible, but darn close nowadays. I have been working in an industry that does a lot of shipping & receiving of smaller items & can tell you that nothing has been lost yet. Damaged? Yep, Bunch of times. Everything is tracked so closely now that packages don't move from any vehicle or location without a scan. Get a tracking number. should be a 5 minute phone call to find out what happened.

I have a friend who works at a company that does over the road shipping of large items. Not only does everything get scanned, but the scan gets logged with surveillance video so they can review the actual item/s being loaded in the trucks when their is a problem. Not saying every shipper does that, but its out there & it would be hard to loose an engine IMO. ;)

I don't want to pile on as I Don't know both sides of the story, & there is always two sides. But something seems fishy somewhere....
 
When I originally shipped them, the woman at the UPS place checked the price and weight, twice. I paid around $38 for regular UPS shipping for each engine. It turned out the engines were going to be over nighted to his shop in Horsham, pa. because of how close we are to philly, She couldn't believe it. That is the same reason I call BS on UPS losing one. You are correct, I should have driven there long ago. Its just I have a small self control problem when it comes to people trying to rip me off and I really don't fare well with confrontation. I can't stress enough, I am not here to try and smear the guy. I am just letting everyone know what has happened so far.
 
If the engine was shipped back to you UPS, I am calling complete BS on it being lost. If it somehow was lost, there is a claim & process already started & you should have access to that info. I don't see how UPS stuff gets lost tho. Heck, UPS not only knows where all their trucks are at all times, they know how many feet that truck has backed up in a day & how long they leave the cargo door open in the trucks. They have their thumb squarely on everything..
 
With all the problems this is why I just do my own. My luck it would be 2 years before I got mine back lol.
 
Several years ago and I do not recall if it was fedex or ups I was getting a warranty replacement solar power inverter. Tracking said it was delivered to me at my work address. On a hunch I dropped into a solar electric dealer down the street who was a dealer for this inverter and, lo and behold, there it was sitting under a table in their shipping/receiving dept. They did not have a good explanation as to why they did not pursue getting it to me as it was clearly marked with my address and name. Of course they would just sell it at list price of about $1500, collect the state rebate of approx $700 if they got away with it ... pretty sweet/sad. Unfortunately a lot of people would do this. Driver was not paying attention to individual labels because he/she was used to seeing product from this manufacturer being delivered to the dealer.

Just saying maybe a "smidgen" of truth to the "lost" story.
 
Just saying. My engine was "lost" as well. All I know is I've never had a problem with any mail carrier, and he is so specific on what mail carrier to use...

Just saying "lost" sounds like an easy excuse for "not done yet, but I'll hurry now that your on my ass"...

Especially since he won't give you a tracking number. Always something about a broker and it just seems like such a hassle getting a feeling number from him.

Sorry to hear this delay without explanation is happening to you, I just hope it wasn't damaged by the shipper or something like that. Maybe if I send him mine I'll insist on withholding payment till it's boxed and ready to ship.
 
I was finally contacted today. He explained what has happened and said he is going to make it right. I told him at this point, that's all I want. He did take responsibility for it taking this long. That, to me speaks a lot in itself. One thing I forgot to say is, The engine I did get back already, looked awesome. Rotary was already timed and there where exhaust gaskets inside the tub. I am supposed to have the second engine by at least Friday.
 
I received the second engine today. It was on the porch when I arrived home from work. It looks just as nice as the first one. I don't know how the train got off the tracks in the first place, but in the end he was a man of his word and he made it right. To me, that means a good bit. I don't know if the grapevine had something to do with it or what happened, but a big thank you to whatever happened. Would I use him again?? Probably, maybe, not certain, the jury is still out. I have not started or ran either engine yet. I would like to post how they run but I doubt I will get both engines in and running before it starts freezing all the water around here. It was already 36 the other morning. If I do get them in, the most they would be run is in the driveway. I may not even bother with it this late in the season, my garage hasn't been built yet. I do honestly think a newer engine wouldn't have the trouble I did.
 
IMO I would wait until you can run them in the water. If you don't run them on the hose you shouldn't have to worry about the whole winterization thing. I'm in ga and I'm not putting my ski back in the water till next year for that reason
