Service Manual question

so i was looking at buying a Service manual for my merc 200 m2 optimax jet .. was wanting to know if the manual has to be spot on with the serial number ? i'm not finding one with my serial number on it.

The books usually cover a range of s/n.............

ok so as long as i get one before the year of my boat.. aka a 2002 manual with sn number bla bla bla should work on my 03 boat
