?Seat modification ideas?

Was just wondering if anyone has modded their seat in any way shape or form? (X4)

Reason I ask this, is last year I broke my rear plastic latching mechanism on 2 of my skis from jumping big barge and boat wake..

Also was wondering if people drill holes or anything like that for quicker water drainage out of the seat??

My brother has a crazy one that pulls hot air out of the engine compartment.

On breaking the latches...you need to adjust the metal pin most likely upwards. You have too much tension on the plastic latch, and a good hit shatters them.

They did make billet latches, but they are hard to find. I do have one, but its earmarked for my ski or to be sent to someone who wants to copy them.
 
Your bros seat sounds crazy, never heard of or seen a seat like that.

Would you be able to post pics of that latch? Just curious what it looks like.

And good call on the adjustment of my seat pin, makes sense why it's harder to latch then my other ski that didn't break the latch lol

I have 2-3 buddies that fabricate and have access to multiple different CNC machine etc, maybe they would be interested in copying it.

Another question about seat mods, the orignal seat off my 97spx is toast and the foam isn't in that great of shape either, so I'd rather not stick my nice new jettrim cover over it. Im wondering if I could cut and modify the bottom part of a spare seat I have off a 95xp 720?? Obviously the 95xp doesn't not fit the 787 equipped skis do to the way the exhaust sits in the hull (too tall)

Or would I be able to steal the foam off the 95xp seat and reinstall on the 97spx seat without screwing it up??

Either remove the staples or cut the old cover off from the inside (away from the foam) and there might be a flap on the back that is glued to the foam. Remove foam from both pans keep the 787 pan marked, dry the seat foam out for a day or two if it's not dry. I used some old 3M super adhesive 08090 to adhere the foam to the pan. Then start wrapping the new cover and staple it on. I put the staples in pretty far toward the edge of the material so I wouldn't mess up and then I could finish close to the edge and remove the first staples.

You can see how far in I put some of my staples. I stretched it so I could re-position it if I needed to. It was my first cover and I was really nervous, didn't want to botch it up.

Here the under side of my seat on my XP. This seat was from out west and was supposedly on a ski that may have been a race ski or a tuner ski for Watoose. But you can see they used a hole saw and made it breathe. You can hear the engine much more with all the ventilation.

Cool idea for sure, but to have one made would be pricey, to make it to be sold reasonably, the quantity would need to be high.

Very interesting with all those holes, I think I've seen those pics before at one time. Would one even need to run the back air box thing with all those holes??

Good info on that foam and cover, I may even try to tackle installing the seat cover myself after reading through that thread.

Your definetly right about the cost of having those made, and I doubt enough ppl would be interested...

Watoose is an awesome tuner. Everything that comes from him is over the top nice. I have a ported 787 from him and it's all powder coated. He is also the one who made my carbon fiber XPL seat.

Where did I find the link, I'd have to hurt you if I told you. But Google is your best friend:D
 
the snorkel is ther for a reason if your like me your machine ends up upside down 2-6 times a year with out it and or with thos holes you will swamp your machine half full off water that tube under the seat is your only defence unless your racing with big mods that need more air I don't recommend anyone takes it out or mods ther seat that way
 
Ya my "snorkel" won't be removed. And I definetly won't be drilling all the holes in my seat, my skis have minor mods that wouldn't benefit from it anyway like you mentioned
