I have a 04 seadoo it wont start. I says key. need help to figure whats wrong

What happens when you put your lanyard key on? Is the engine turning over?

I am going out on a limb here, and say, that the craft says "key" when he attaches his lanyard... Now he does need to tell us, "IF" it cranks or not, and how about the beeps??? Mine one time when we got the two lanyards mixed up, beeped for a very long time...
If this is the case, try cleaning both the lanyard and the post WITH WATER AND A RAG!!! NO WINDEX OR OTHER CLEANERS...
