hey guys

I am looking at purchasing a couple Seadoos between 2007-2010

I am wondering what is the most reliable Seadoo / least amount of maintenance?

I was thinking of going with the 155 GTX or the 155 GTI

Thanks

I have a 2011 GTX 155 and it has had no problems so far. I believe the models 2009 and later have S3 hulls in the GTX and IBR which helps when maneuvering. I would look for a later model year if possible.

I would go with the gtx.. I hear its a much, much better hull.

GTX hands down. Just make sure you avoid the newer suspension models.

Just wondering why do you say to stay away from the suspension model?

Are they having problems or is it just more sh*t that needs maintenance and is bothersome?

They're prone to sink..

SINK???????

WTF???

You'll have to forgive me in my ignorance...I'm just starting to do my research on getting into this. I've been torn between getting 2 jet skis for the wife & I or just a 150 speedster boat. This is the first time I've heard of this type of thing. I actually was blown away the first time I watched a dealer video on the suspension. I don't want to pay the price for one.

Is Seadoo doing anything about this?

from my understanding, if the foot wells become too filled with water they will leak into the underside of the suspension.. do a search in the forum and youll come up with a ton of sinking threads from suspension...

im not a fan of this video but..

most of them are suspension models.. some arent

I guess I haven't been very good in my research so far.

Not to self: Stay away from suspension models.

Do you have the same advise of "stay away from" any SC models?

i have the gtx 215 supercharged and its awesome BUT you have to keep up with maintenance the sc must be taken out and rebuilt every 2 years or 100 hours.. if not then you could drop the supercharger into the motor and have a 3500 dollar bill to replace the motor.. but if you dont mind the maintenance.. opt for the SC model.

With me being on the LARGER side (300+lbs) it sounds like the SC is probably the only option if I want to even get up on plane...LOL

It's been years since I've been on a ski and I am blown away with the technology that is in the new skis. I'm just looking for a couple skis for my wife & I to go out and have some fun on now and then.

Oh here we go with the suspension models sinking again......

17hrs on mine, hasn't sunk yet.

Anyway there's no such thing as most reliable AND least amount of maintenance..... But don't get a supercharged ski if you're looking for low maintenance.

There were a series of the suspension model that did have a sinking or near sinking issue. I read that the newer models have a design change which eliminated the concern.

I have two skis. One with and one without a SC.

The GTX 155 is my "guest" ski and the RXT-X 215 SC is mine. LOL. The GTX is like riding a Caddy where the RXT is like a BMW. LOVE both skis but they are VERY different skis.

With your weight I opt for the SC and just know every couple of years you will spend 500 ish dollars rebuilding the SC.

I will never not own a ski without the SC. They are amazing skis.

Not to sound like an a$$ but 17hrs is what I ride on a holiday weekend. Saying you're suspension model hasn't sink in 17hrs of runtime holds no weight.

Lol I thought I put it in sarcasm font :) however it does hold weight as my ski spent three weeks sitting at the dock in all kinds of weather- and didn't sink.

The hulls did get a design change to fix the sinking issue. I agree there WAS a problem, however I heard that bad carbon seals being the root cause more than anything. But I wouldn't write off the entire line of suspension models. To each their own.

Hard to believe that the current suspension models would continue to be designed in a way that that makes them vulnerable to sinking. I'm sure some of the Seadoos in the video were under some duress to get them under the water. Anyway, I debated buying a suspension based model, but after taking a good look at it, I thought that for about 9 months of storage it wasn't worth it. Anyway, like the other posts, the GTX is fine even the 155. It won't be significantly impacted by bigger riders.

I appreciate (as does the OP I imagine) all your input on the reliability and which hull to consider. The power issue still kinda has me puzzled.

I think just about everyone wants the turn key no worries type of ski, but still crave the performance of the SC. I"m pretty sure my wife will never even come close to the extremes of any ski but there are those times that I will and also will want too....that being said I will most likely get a SC in my ski.

I need to figure out which way to go....speedster boat vs 2 jet skis.

Sorry for the late response on this but yes they are a pain to maintain. If you're doing any of the work yourself the suspension skis are a nightmare. They're also very top heavy and feel very heavy when riding. Oh and there's that sinking deal that's been mentioned. Most that sank had a carbon seal issue but the footwell thing is a concern is you're going to leave it anchored or tied to a dock overnight. Night be fine but I wouldn't sleep too well.

Thank you for you valuable information. I've pretty much figured on not getting any suspension models but am still undecided on which hull and power configuration.

I have a 2010 GTX 155, and I weigh in at a solid 265 pounds, and ride double with my wife. We have over 400 pounds on that machine, and it handles it beautifully. Planes quick, response is great, fuel economy is pretty good. Yup, not as quick as a SC one, but a lot less hassles......

If you don't mind me asking....when you and your better half go out for a day out on the water playing and cruising around do you last the day on a tankful of gas or do you have to refill part way through the day?

With getting naturally aspirated motors for both my wife & I....will she be kicking my butt out of the hole and walking away from me on speed as well?

Maybe I should get her the 150 and I get the 155.

Cya

Thats a hard one to answer, but for our case, we usually make it thru the day without having to refuel. But for us, a day is not very long, maybe 4 to 6 hours. We are more of a crusing type family than a play hard type.

SO....with the cruising of 4-6hrs with two-up riding you usually don't have to refuel. Correct?

My 155 ski I can run all day long. My 255 is a different story. If I ride it respectably it will last 6 to 8 hrs. If I get out there and play hard it lasts 4 hours...
