I am looking for some input from those with experience with these engines. My motor has trouble starting and after holding down the starter it eventually turns over but sounds like the pto housing is full of busted bearing balls or broken bendix clutch teeth, does anyone know what this could be, or is it just a noisy motor and a bad starter solenoid.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. By the way the motor is in a 1648 bass boat. it's a jet john.

your initial starting problem is due to a low battery. Be careful, never jump it off a running car or battery charger. Another battery is ok, and I think jump boxes are ok, but I'm not sure. I fried my ECU once jumping off a live battery charger ($450 mistake). That noise is odd, have you checked you supercharger? Remove the boost hose and see if you can spin the turbine with your fingers. I really hope you changed out those ceramic washers as they're guaranteed to fall apart and go into your PTO housing.

The battery is good I have tried 2 different fully charged brand new batteries. As for the supercharger bearing the craigslist guy i bought the ski off of said he changed and upgraded the bearing before I even knew those were common failures. But as craigslist often goes maybee he lied... is the turbine supposed to spin with your fingers or not spin?

You need to take the supercharger apart and inspect for damages and missing parts. If it’s not in one piece the missing pieces are in your engine and from the rattling noises you described that is probably the case. The motor is not necessarily trash but definitely is going to need more than just minor work.

So far I have pulled the boot from the SC to the throttle body and I'm not seeing any metal shavings at all in the boot which seems like a good sign, next I'll pull the charger and see if I can find all the parts...if im missing parts I'll chase it into the intake manifold and cylinders.

Well everything's missing from the sc, cant imagine what damage all those missing parts have done to the motor, does anyone know if a gtx 155 has the same motor mounts, what would I need to switch motors to a NA? Fuel pump, ecu, gauges?

Fuel pump filter I think, ecu injectors (I think) and get key reprogrammed to ecu (the thing on the manifold, not the fuse block) not sure what else. Motor might be okay after a good cleaning of the oil passages. Sorry this happened to you. Il be tearing mine apart to replace the thrust bearings AGAIN. Let me know if you decide to ditch that motor. I may be in the market for one.
