Hi
I’m in the Uk and I have a electrical issue with my seadoo above.
My problem is that the dealers over here have to programme the ECU to the key fob and there getting fed up with me now as I’m struggling to find the problem.New ECU and Mpem fitted.
Evidently when connected to there BUDS software they cant get past the first stage of coding the key because it throws up other error codes??
So basically what I’m trying to say is I would like to fault find at home and then test without taking to ski back to dealer (200 miles round trip) just to be told it still doesn’t work .
Will the candoo pro code the key before it starts??
Your advise would be massively appreciated, I’m banging my head against the wall back here !!
Kindest Regards

Hi popps
No they can’t code the key at all .
I’m thinking of buying the candoo pro software but the instructions say you have to start the ski during the process which obviously I can’t do as I haven’t got a coded key fob .
I’ve had a reply from candoo pro saying it will code keys but nothing seems very clear.
cheers
Mark

You need two keys but I also can’t find if one of them needs to be programmed to the ski already

I did find that a dealer with BUDS can program a ski with no good keys, they first check if it’s on a stolen ski list and if it’s not they will reprogram new keys.

I would say that Candoo was not given permission to have that ability because it would make it very easy to program a stolen ski without keys functional.

And I am also not sure if a Candoo Pro will connect to your ski if you don’t have one good key to diagnose your aforementioned error codes.
Probably not.

Maybe ask your dealer when they tried to program the new ECM and MPEM if they have a record of the error codes they kept getting to prevent programming. Need to get those cleared.

So I think what Ski-doo is saying is that if your just telling the dealer to program new key fobs, they don’t know that the ECU and cluster aren’t married yet and that is why it’s throwing codes when they try to program the key fobs.

Hi guys
The dealer supplied the new ECU and is a main seadoo dealer in Poole and has the correct BUDS software etc so I presume they know the above ?
Candoo pro say that there software Will programme new key fobs as long as I have a fob on the post ?
so I just need a new blank fob as I have the original
Am I missing something here regarding the the cluster pairing with the ecu ?
thanjs again for your reply’s and help

If they are a seadoo dealer and you bought the ECU from them then make them fix it. Any half competent dealer can easily fix an 06 electrical or programming problem.

Making it run is not going to be a simple matter of just programming a key. You should talk to the tech and ask him exactly what the problem is. He should tell you that he married the new ECU to the cluster by matching the security codes and then writing it to the ECU. Then did a power cycle and confirmed the codes match. At that point, if it is throwing codes then he should tell you exactly what the codes are.

06 is a real transition year for electronics where they still had an mpem but it worked together with the ECU and the cluster together. This was the first year for marrying the cluster to the ECU where previous years were plug and play.

Your cluster shouldn't need a reflash but I have had to reflash in the past to make it work with the ECU. It is a simple process and only takes a couple minutes. BUDS is the only software that can perform a reflash due to software licensing rights.

Are you sure you have an 06 GTX LTD? Is it light blue and silver?

Hi Skidoo
Thanks so much for your help and advise here
The HIN suggests it’s a 2006 gtx ltd again checked by seadoo dealer
It is silver and blue.
I bought it spares or repair and was advertised as electrical problem but I found the head gasket had gone which led to a total rebuild by myself but as originally advertised it definitely has electrical issues as well but I can’t find out if the rebuild has been successful or not , it’s very frustrating !
my dealer is convinced it’s been sunk and salt water has eaten the looms but I not so convinced
I understand they don’t really want to work on it and have basically told me so hence I’m looking for a way round this issue
I have full documentation fir the ski and am the registered owner with data tag etc
Many thanks
Mark

Well sometimes you have to believe what a tech is telling you, frustrating after putting in all the work on the rebuild. I still think a Candoo will not program a new key unless you have a programmed to the ski key fob on the dess post for theft reasons. Even if you have the original key it is not programmed to the new ECU so it won’t work.

Candoo can program keys easily to new ECUs but that is not your real problem.

Sinking skis is not a big deal normally in fresh water but salt water can make them more challenging. I've probably recovered a hundred a skis from sinking including snowmobiles that have sat under water for months and all came back to life. The worst ones are when they sit for months or years after being sunk and recovered which many times will lead to full rebuilds due to rust setting in.

If they suspect corroded wiring, you will have to go through all the connections and confirm they are good. You will have to remove the terminal from the connectors and inspect each terminal and wire connection. I would start at the mpem as it is a common place for bad connections. Doing resistance checks on all circuits is good as well but I normally start visual and feel with a little bending/pulling the wire at the terminal crimp.

You should read the service manual and it also explains how to remove most terminals from their connectors.

Thanks ski-doo really appreciate all the help
Why I want to get the candoo pro for is so as I can check/repair the looms and fault find as I go , ie. find a problem, try to code up , if no joy carry on checking .
At the moment if I found a fault I would have to go back to dealer (200 mile round trip) to see if it would code up then , if not the process starts all over again.
It’s just to far to keep doing that and the dealer who have been really helpful I will add , have had enough of it now I think to be honest !
Am I still missing something here ?
many thanks
Mark

BUDS or other software is only minimally helpful in finding bad wiring connections. In fact, sometimes it can mislead you.

I'm not saying it isn't worth having but if you're expecting it to magically tell what your problem is then you are mistaken.

I’m not asking it to find the problem , just how will I ever no if I have found the problem unless I can code up ?
basically what I m saying is if I find a loose or corroded connector say , if I then tried coding the ecu etc ,and it worked , wouldn’t that confirm that I found the fault ?? If it didn’t or threw error codes I just carry on looking until it does ?
sorry to sound dumb about this , probably because I don’t understand it !

Can you read the error codes on your display when you just wake up your ski without starting? If you can read them on the display they are active and need to be cleared before you can program your keys per your dealer. If you can read them it will also give you a general idea where to look. If you can’t read them then yes you are working blind and would need to try to code your keys to see if you fixed anything.

“The 4-TEC ECU allows storing up to 8 key serial numbers in its list. CANDooPro allows you to manage the list of keys, to add new keys up to a total of 8, and to erase keys.”

https://www.candoopro.com/help.pdf

No where I can find in their manual that you can marry a key to the ECU.

Keys aren't really married, they are just programmed or stored in the ECU memory. Marrying is generally the process of matching the security codes of the cluster, ibr, is, ibrmon, and the ECU which Candoo is capable of. What it can't do is flash the gauge to add the BRP proper software version due to copyright license owned by BRP that candoo can't provide.

At some point you will need software to get everything working but it sounds like they are having a communication problem with the ECU at this point. The newest and final version of BUDS1 is 3.8 but for pre 2006 skis you have to use version 3.3. Again, basic common knowledge that all dealers should know but I see clueless dealers all the time.

Thanks chaps for your information, massively appreciated, do you think I would get anywhere with the candoo pro as a start or does it really need to be the BUDS software as the first stage before coding keys etc ?

You could send your mpem and ECU along with a copy of your title to West Side Powersports here in the states, they can program new keys without the ski.
