Hey guys im new to the pwc world and just picked up a 2001 sea doo GTX 951 carbrated. The ski has 117hrs on it and ran fine untile i found someone left the hose on, and ski off. So it filled with water. I am planning on putting a new top end in it, mabe after market carb jet kit, reeds, and get rid of that huge air box. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as Performance parts, Good VS bad, Leave it oil injected, or pre mix? Thanks guys like i said im new to the PWC world

Well... are you going to race?

If not... aftermarket reeds loose their advantage over stock reads in only a few hours of use. (leave the stock reads in)

Aftermarket jet kit??? For what? Unlike a motorcycle... these engines are jetted corectly... and since they use pressure carbs... you have a high and low speed needle to make fine fuel adjustments.

If you are using it for recreation... leave the stock air box on. It's the best for protecting the engine from drinking water when you roll it over. AND... it's not a filter... it's a flame arrestor to keep a backfire from setting the engine compartment on fire. Aftermarket flame arrestors mess with the tunning, and normally require a change in pop-off pressure to run properly. By them selves, they dont' normally offer any extra power.

The best "bang for the buck" is an aftermarket tuned pipe. Most of the pipes from "Factory Pipe" offer a 10% to 20% improvement in HP over stock. With those pipes... they will tell you if you need a jetting change, and most of the time, they want all the other parts to be stock.

Performance

I don't usually change anything from factory settings, SeaDoo does a good job of maximizing performance from the factory. I have always been under the opinion if you want a faster ski buy a faster ski.

However, I recently bought a high performance intake grate. While it doesn't increase speed or hp, it's like somebody drove a nail through the ski. Its much more manuverable when you do a 360 it really sticks.

Yes i am just planning on using it for fun and some long off-shore trips. How are these skis on fuel? Also is the oil injection good or get a block off plate and premix

Advise

You are probably not going to be real pleased with fuel economy. Depending on how I run the ski, I wanna go fast, you'll get about 1.5-2hrs. on 10 gals. of gas.

I wouldn't block off the oil injection, SeaDoo makes a very reliable oil injection system.

really, that kinda sucks on the fuel thing. Im still up in the air with the injection, with it just being a cable im not to keene on it. If that cable where to break, thats it
