SBT Head exchange

I snapped the timing chain on one of my 2006 RXT's while at full throttle (55 hours on it). Turns out I damaged a piston, bent all 6 exhaust valves and bent 4 intake valves. I am considering going with an SBT rebuilt head through their core exchange service. Their price is $495+ shipping + $100 per damaged valve seat (maximum of $400 for valve seat damage) so on the high end the cost would be $895 plus shipping (not sure yet if any valve seats are damaged as head has not been torn down). My other option is to get all the parts and send the head off to the head shop.....this option would end up costing much more.

Curious as to the quality of SBT rebuilt heads, if anyone knows? Anyone have any experience with them? I know their rebuilt 4 tec motors are good for the most part, but can be hit or miss. I would hate to drop a valve next season just because I wanted to save some money, but we aren't talking about $100 savings, it is much more.

I'll be using an SBT piston kit as well as their gasket kit, front/rear oil pump rebuild kits, and supercharger rebuild kit. I really have no reason to believe their rebuilt heads would not perform well but figured I would try and find out.

Man, this board is quiet!

I am going with SBT for the head exchange if anyone cares lol

Sorry for lack of response...

Never heard anything good about SBT.

Can you please elaborate a little??

Did you find out why the timing chain broke ?

At first we thought the chain snapped just because "sometimes these things happen" until we got the motor apart and found that silicone was used by the previous owner's mechanic rather than replace some gaskets. The excess silicone that squeezes out and breaks up clogged the oil pumps and starved the timing chain of oil, causing it to snap.

I have been using Seadoo engine shop for a few years. He does really good work and stands behind it.

I hope your rebuild goes well. I am getting ready to start one on an 04 RXP. I'd be curious to see what parts you go with and your cost if you don't mind sharing some details.

Originally I planned on going with all Sea Doo parts, but the cost to do so added to the cost of the head shop and my mechanic friend would have been too high to be worth it. So I changed gears and am going with the following which total will be about $2,600

SBT head exchange
SBT gasket kit
SBT front oil pump rebuild kit
SBT rear oil pump rebuild kit
SBT supercharger rebuild kit
SBT piston kit
