Picked up an 01 RX DI last year for next to nothing in non running condition. Overall decent shape, only 39 hours but clearly sat outside uncovered for quite some time. New battery and plugs, sucked all of the old nasty fuel/water out of the tank, replaced the fuel filter and rebuilt the fuel pump. Pulled fuel rail and verified injectors are pulsing properly. Cleaned the RAVE valves and replaced the o rings, they move freely. Ski fires up instantly and seems like it will idle all day long, but when i hit the throttle it dies every time. Can get it to rev up now and then but most of the time it dies pretty much right away.
Hooked the ski up to BUDS, saw TPS was only reaching about 70% at full throttle,. performed the reset with no change. Not convinced that's my issue but ordered new sensors anyway. Checked over rest of the ski and realized its not charging, only seeing 12V to the battery at idle. Regulators seem to be a common issue, hoping its not the stator as that doesn't seem like a fun job at all. Have not had a chance to check AC output yet.
I know I'm all over the place but these DI's are a pain in the ass to diagnose. Doubting the TPS theory but could the charging issues be causing the ski to die like that? I know these are power hungry. If the regulator is the issue is it worth using the OEM 4tec regulator vs the OEM DI regulator? Starting to warm up here and would love to get this turd on the water.
