was riding and ski just dies and wont turn over afterwards.
If this was a vehicle I would say that the alternator went bad and ran till the battery lost power
Do these skis have an alternator or what charges the battery while running?

Do the gauges light up if you press the start/stop button?
If not, then I would check all the grounds and also the post for the lanyard.

How good is the battery?

No alternator.

Hi, and welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

Yes, there is a charging system it's a magneto, like on model T's. It's located in the cover in the front of the engine. Actually these are pretty reliable and I suspect your problem is elsewhere. Possible a bad battery, or voltage regulator. The first thing I would do is have the battery load tested. An auto parts store will check it for free.

im assuming you are talking about your spx correct? If so then you ned to find out why it quit. If it just died it wouldnt be a battery. Grab the shaft and see if you can turn it by hand it may be locked up. like seadoobuddy said no alternator on a ski. Check to see if it turnes over if it does then pull the plugs and do a compression test

It can die from a weak battery, if the voltage to the MPEM drops to less than 10v. the MPEM will quit functioning, so if you suspect the battery have it checked first.

True but......... i have always had them run like sh** when that happends for quite a while they never just completely died on me. either way check all that has been mentioned then report back

Hey Brock my son was on it when it happened and he did say that it got weak before it died
Thank you for the help

Well I charged the battery and it reads just over 12 volts but same result. Starter engages and turns shaft about a quarter turn. When I try to turn the shaft by hand I can only move it a quarter turn either direction. Im starting to worry. Should I be able to turn it with my hand?

A fully charged battery should measure 13-13.5 volts, the next thing to do is take the battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested.

It's not easy to turn over by hand, remove the spark plugs and you should be able to turn the engine over by hand.
