Rubber Hose instead of Rubber Boot on Axle

I am wondering if there are any issues with replacing the rubber axle shaft boot that flexes, with a more rigid thick rubber hose. I found one at Home depot that needs to have an inch or so cut off to make it the right length.

The carbon ring fits into the hose perfect and it fits over the hull insert perfect.

I guess my ultimate question is; will the rigid nature of the hose cause some issue like overheating the carbon ring due to too much friction?

Thanks for any input!

I don't think you can do it. The reason being the bellows actually keeps presure on the drive shaft, acts kinda like a spring. This helps take some of the play out of the drive shaft. Without the pressure the carbon seal would leak and eventually fail.
