Hi I am installing an SBT 717 into my 97 GSI(~130 hours).

Does my rotary valve cover need resurfacing?

I have a brand new rotary valve to install as the old one was damaged.

Thanks,

Appears to be fine to me but check the clearance per the manual. Also did you get a new OEM rotary valve? Some of the aftermarket ones are not indexed correctly like the WSM ones.

I am continuing re-assembly. Just finished the rotary valve timing and was about to put the cover back on. Take a look at the oil port on the left side, doesn't it look like it's bent? Has me a bit concerned that it may not deliver enough oil. What do you guys think?

I would be wary of that bent tube.

It is a softer brass material though. If it was my machine I would, very gently, pull that tube back straight with as little pressure as possible in order to keep it from folding over where that dent is. After it is straight I would take a metal "something" who's outer diameter is just a hair smaller than the inner diameter of that brass tube, grind a smooth point on it, and gently tap it through the brass fitting on the hope that it will push that dent out giving you the full inner diameter the tube originaly had.

Patience is your key here. Don't rush it.

A metal "something" could be the, non cutting, end of a small drill bit.

As for the RV cover. Do the cover to valve measurement to make sure it is in spec. The cover face is not perfect, but will still work. 90% of the rv style sea doos out there probably have covers that look like that, it's a water toy and they all suck some water into the motor at some time.

BTW - remember that you are fighting two bends in that tube. Where it folded as it exits the aluminum rv body and at the impact point.

As careful as I was i pretty much figured that I would break that soft brass.

I used a wire nail it was closest thing i could find. Gently working it back and forth it broke the tube right at the valve body, what a bummer.

Doesn't make sense to go further without a new valve cover, my rebuid just went up in $.

Is SBT the best option around for one of these? I looked for used on ebay but most of those would require resurfacing.

You can't put a new fitting in there?
