Hey all,
(I’m kinda new to jet skis so please excuse my ignorance)
Recently I bought 2 skis at $430 for restoration projects. The one I’m working on right now is a 1996 Seadoo SPX. When I bought it the owner said he had a guy working on it because it wasn’t starting. After looking into it the mechanic replaced the starter and the relay in the main electrical box. So after I removed the old relay and connected all the wires I hooked up a fresh battery to see if it would crank. I was relieved to see that it was cranking given the rats nest of an electrical box I was left with however there was a loud grinding noise when it was turning over. After further research I concluded it was probably something with the rotary valve. So I removed the motor and pulled the carb out to discover my rotary valve cover and part of the crankcase assembly mangled. This was because the mechanic dropped a screw that fell inside the of carb. My question is referring to the picture below would it be better for me to grind down the hard edges or just replace the crankcase assembly? Regardless of the outcome it’s ultimately a shame because I think this motor was rebuilt recently. I appreciate the help.
