this is my 97 787 seadoo boat
so i just changed out the rotary valve out due to failure
so i put in the new one (used) and now when i spin the motor around when it comes all the way around it makes a clicking sound (sounds like the spring on the rotary valve popping)is it going to burn up another rotary valve? is it just braking in? any one know the cause????

Failure?

Here's the idea.... You had a failure (which you don't describe) in the rotary valve and put another one on. In troubleshooting, you don't just replace a broken part. You have to find the "root cause" of why it broke to begin with. If you have a problem and don't find and repair it, then every rotary plate you put on is going to bite the bullet.

If your hearing "clicking". .... You might have a burrr on the surface face. The clearance on these things is really tight. With the rotary on, you can remove the carbs and measure the clearance. The clearance between the rotary valve and the outside of the plate is .012" +/- .002". If the clearance is to low, it can cause over heat conditions. If it's to high, it could cause hard starting.

But, you need to find out why it's clicking. My first though is, open it back up for inspection. See what you can find. If you don't see anything, grab the shaft and push/pull,.... Turn from left to right to see if you can hear the click from the worm gear.....

the failure was the worm gear wearing down ,when i spin the motor around buy the pto wheel counter clockwise it goes around one time and it clicks iam pretty sure its the spring on the end of the worm gear clicking like the worn gear is binding up ,is this from a bur? where should i look ?should i split open the bottom end?
thanks

found cause !!! it had the (loop) the hose goeing from one side of the case to the other insted of one to the oil tank and the other to vent so worm gear had no oil now what ?

rotary valve or RV assy

what was it that you replaced? I've seen where yuo replace the "rotary valve" either because the intake sucked up the brass injetor fitting, or in my case, came across a motor that sat with water in it..(for a very long time) and it ate a whole in it, other than that, cant see why one would replace just the "disk". Now if you replaced the RV assy...gear, bearings, brass gear...with a used one, then i suspect the used one was also bad. For simple fact, it was already out of a ski/boat. It does not take much for those to get a "bend" to it, and cause another catastophic faileur, i think to the tune of .003 out of "true"

If there was no oil in the loop, then the rv assy cavaty was starved for lubrication, and that the brass gear could have/if not been hindered.

Either route you take, make sure those lines have oil,..loop design or to/from oil tank. Once oil is present, inspect the "return" oil line for any brass shavings, if so, then i say STOP, and pull apart the carb assy/intake manifold, to inspect the "timing" and the surfaces of where the RV rotates, like what Snipe mentioned.

Let the forum know, what actually you replaced, and that we'll go from there.

i replaced the worm gear the hole assabely i pulled it out today to look at the worm gear and it looks fine its for sure the worm gear or rv because the motor spins fine with out it
another thing i noticed is one rotary gear(its the gear the you see when you take off the intake) is thick and the other is thin are they the same from the 720 and the 800?

fixed it thanks!! inside where the worn gear is there was a brass shaving stuck to the gear binding it up making it click thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
