That ski is DONE. It's O.K. to buy a ski to fix up, but this ski is a basket case. Just sell it or get rid of it, use it for a planter, for whatever you can, a couple of hundred it you're lucky and let us help you find something that is restorable. Don't throw good money after bad, sorry to be harsh but that's the facts. We've all made mistakes, just write it up to education.

That thing must have been soaking in Salt water since this last time it ran. I honestly think you are fighting a losing battle on that engine. BTW the bolts will break off from salt corrosion eating them up.

The way I see it it you have 2 choices here :

1. Buy a rebuilt motor and stick in this ski and hope the jet pump is okay. But i bet it is eat up also.

2. Sell what you can off of it for parts and take that money with your 700.00 and buy a running ski. For 1,000.00 you can buy a running fresh water ski around here. It may need some TLC though.

I never give up, but I would not even try to get that ski running. You may be lucky and have a good MPEM in it. That is the main electrical brain. If it is alive, it is worth something. But the rest is pretty rough. There may be some stuff you can sell, but you will be in way more than 1K if you try to fix it. Wait until winter and find a $400 runner and use your remaining $300 to replace the lines, and other minor items.

Well it sounds like I am going to need to change the name in my signature! I hate to give up on anything but I trust that you guys know what you're talking about.

So what should I do?

Do I just try and sell it the way it sits?

Do I take every usable part off that I can in case I buy another ski that uses the same parts? (Are there other skis that use the same parts?) and then sell the hull with the title?

I have a running 91 GT, but it doesn't have the original engine in it. Is there any chance some of the parts could be used for that ski? (Right now it runs but it seems to have some cavitation issues.)

The GT is super clean and the first 5-7 times we were on it, it absolutely flew! I swear it did 50mph! Then we tried pulling someone on skis which was fine for the first 10 minutes but then they feel and when I tried to pull them out of the water again the ski felt like it was slipping.

Anyways, I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks guys!

I posted it back up on Craigslist for $200 and explained that the hull is in decent shape but the rest isn't good. The last thing I want to do is mislead someone. I'm sure I won't get the $200 but I figure it's worth a shot, at least it looks a little cleaner.

Here's another option, let me know if you think this one is worth going to see. And if the parts from the SPX could be used on this XP:

I don't think that salt turd has any parts worth using. It's a different engine and electronics. The hulls are the same and jet pump. Other than that not too too much will transfer over

I think you're on the right track, with all the corrosion I seriously doubt that there are any parts that are salvageable and that you could sell to anyone in good faith. What you basically have is a useable trailer with a free ski, and I think (assuming the trailer is useable), $200.00 is in the right price range, be prepared to take $150.00.

The 96SPX was not particularly a desirable ski, it's more like a throwback to the 95XP, for 96 the XP was the ski to have, so few parts will interchange with the 96XP.

It's good to see that you are an honest person and that you're not trying to pass this ski off on someone else, anything I can do for you in the future just let me know.
