RESTO Restoring Plastics on Seadoo GS

I have been looking some restoration projects, and it is impossible to miss how good the shinny plastics look. Is there any know post on how to do it?

Depending on how white your plastics are you might need to scrub them with a scotchbrite pad and some cleaner, then hit it with a heat gun. Google "heat gun Jeep fender flares". there are numerous videos on Youtube.

If you want the shine back with out painting, do as Racer suggested, I have done it on a few pads and grab handles it works well.

I do the same heat gun trick but if its really bleached then I spray it with Kimball Midwest Penetrating Oil. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and wipe the excess. I dont know whats so special about this stuff but it brings a lot of color back just by spraying. Then hit it with the heat gun.

oil basically eats (dissolves) the plastic, you are using chemicals to remove the top .00001" layer.

that's why it works.

used sparingly, this should work fine.

Shawn, are your pics just from the spray or sparay + heat gun. Curious because of the decal. Results are amazing.

Spray and heat gun, to save the decal the deflector was removed while heating. Couldn't do much with the deflector, just cleaned up with mild degreaser and gave it a shine with that oil, then wiped the excess. I dunno how it will hold up over the years but we'll see.
