Put a fresh prop and wear ring on the ski for this season and bent the oetiker clamp that secures the rubber boot (Grease boot or whatever you want to call it) to the drive shaft.
Anyone ever run into any problems just using a standard hose clamp or maybe even zip tie's to replace the oetikers on the drive shaft boot?
My only concern is that obviously that boot spins just as fast as the drive shaft and I dont want to burst the boot or something along those lines when out on the water.
Thanks

I used regular hose clamps to replace mine. Don't use just a zip tie because you need to fill that up with grease and the zip tie probably won't hold up to the pressure

Just make sure any hose clamps are all stainless, not everyday auto parts store variety that only have stainless bands, not screw mechanism and will rust out.

Won't hose clamps cause an imbalance on the shaft? I specifically bought a set of Oetiker pliers and and new stainless clips for mine.

Its more fun discussing how to take them off.

Zip Ties work fine, especially if you can get your hands on a zip tie gun. Hose clamps are bad.....

Hose clamp have a large head on them and can throw off the balance and cause premature failure of driveline parts. If you do use them, you always want to offset them 180 degrees from each other.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts of the balancing issue Joe.

Yep, used zipties on my speedster last year. Make sure you use the ones with a stainless tooth.

I bought a used ski off of someone that used zip ties. First day I rode it they came off and I had grease all over engine in bilge . To me zip ties bad new oetiker fitting good

After that I sold the ski. After that I sold the ski . People have tendency to sell there used ski for a reason . To get rid of there problem and pass it on to you
