PO stripped out one of the screws and really goobered it up, my attempts trying to free it up have failed and both of them seem to be really seized in there, any tips on removal?
which screw?
I believe he is talking about the check valve housing screws. I always give the screw driver a couple of good hits with a hammer before attempting to loosen them. I mean "GOOD" hits. Have always gotten them out, even ones that were partially stripped out by previous owners
Yep, that's the check valve housing. Those screws can be really stuck. The two screws on the jet block (above the jets) both of them were corroded but I let them sit in some penetrating oil all last night, other screw is fine but second one is completely destroyed. Figured the po gave up on it
yup, any tips to remove w/stripped head?Yep, that's the check valve housing. Those screws can be really stuck.
Drill off the head, pull the kidney out.. the screws can be removed later with needle nose pliers
I had the same issue, either drill it out or go to Harbor Freight and get a screw extraction set, you could always use it down the road. I think I paid $9 last year, it's pretty effective.
Alright I'll take the carb to the shop tomorrow any chance you know the drill bit off your head? I could just eyeball it too lol
1/4" maybe. Just whatever to take the head off, not concerned with trying to remove the shaft of the screw
I do it a little differently and use a gouge and a hammer, or a prick punch. There are lots of ways to get that stuff out. Good Luck !! When you put them back in... help out the next guy by not over tightening... the
next guy may be you. LOL
found a allen screw set on ebay which should resolve my issues
Yes, I've bought that set on ebay a couple times about $8 per carb. It doesn't come with the little screws for the throttle/choke butterflys
I didn't take the assembly apart when removing my carb, when I go to repaint them I'll just make them off and relube the springs.
Hopefully the poor ski didn't run with these carbs in the condition they were in.
There is absolutely no reason to remove the butterflies unless you are doing something with the shaft bushings.
All you do is risk damaging the shaft and loosing a screw destroying the engine. In 25 years of working on these I have never needed to remove a throttle butterfly to clean carbs.
