PO stripped out one of the screws and really goobered it up, my attempts trying to free it up have failed and both of them seem to be really seized in there, any tips on removal?

I believe he is talking about the check valve housing screws. I always give the screw driver a couple of good hits with a hammer before attempting to loosen them. I mean "GOOD" hits. Have always gotten them out, even ones that were partially stripped out by previous owners

which screw?

The two screws on the jet block (above the jets) both of them were corroded but I let them sit in some penetrating oil all last night, other screw is fine but second one is completely destroyed. Figured the po gave up on it

Took picture off google but circled them in red

Yep, that's the check valve housing. Those screws can be really stuck.

I had the same issue, either drill it out or go to Harbor Freight and get a screw extraction set, you could always use it down the road. I think I paid $9 last year, it's pretty effective.

Was thinking that, going to take it to the shop and test my luck. Hopefully i wont be in the market for a used carb. Was thinking of cutting a notch with the dremel and using the big flat head to crack it open, found a allen screw set on ebay which should resolve my issues of having to use the JIS #2 screws or what is left of that one.

If that doesn't work I would go to harbor freight and buy it. And report the condition. I haven't even cracked open the pto carb. Mag was pretty bad

1/4" maybe. Just whatever to take the head off, not concerned with trying to remove the shaft of the screw

I have the vision!! You honestly just gave me hope for myself again I thought I would be buying some carbs to rebuild off ebay

Alright looking at some more pictures I now understand what you're telling me, once I drill off the head the kidney will come up and just use a vice grip to take the shaft off. Thanks I will definitely be trying them and seems less accident prone.

Will report back to HQ with hopefully some good news.

I do it a little differently and use a gouge and a hammer, or a prick punch. There are lots of ways to get that stuff out. Good Luck !! When you put them back in... help out the next guy by not over tightening... the
next guy may be you. LOL

The biggest favor you can do for the next guy is to go to the local hardware store, and buy stainless allen head screws for 39 cents a piece.

I bought a package of them (SS) off Amazon. I'd like to buy packages of the smaller screws but identifying them is a pain. I used to just give them to a vendor who bought them for me. LOL

Yes, I've bought that set on ebay a couple times about $8 per carb. It doesn't come with the little screws for the throttle/choke butterflys but you can get those as SS allen heads on ebay also for less than $4 shipped for quantity of 10. They're M3 x .50 8mm here's the link M3 - 0.50 Stainless Steel Flat Head Socket Caps Screws, DIN 7991 A2 Allen / Hex | eBay

Make sure to use loctite or peen the back side of the them. I used blue then dropped red loctite on the backside threads.

Now...you'll never again have a rusted stripped screw problem anywhere on the carb.

I didn't take the assembly apart when removing my carb, when I go to repaint them I'll just mask them off and relube the springs.

Hopefully the poor ski didn't run with these carbs in the condition they were in.

There is absolutely no reason to remove the butterflies unless you are doing something with the shaft bushings.
All you do is risk damaging the shaft and loosing a screw destroying the engine. In 25 years of working on these I have never needed to remove a throttle butterfly to clean carbs.

Yeah I've seen the hassle people have had trying to remove them, I plan to just mask the throttle and choke linkages when I go to respray the carbs along with everything else that shouldn't be covered in paint.

From the factory the only thing they mask are the hose nipples and venturi, spray everything.

You've been fortunate, on the GTX project I did last year one of the throttle shafts and butterflys was bent to hell and I had to remove. The current project, the 96' GSX, the choke knob was missing and the choke butterflys are not smooth at all.

Both sets of carbs were trashed, especially on the GTX, I felt the proper way to address was complete disassembly, clean, polish, and verify smooth operation. Then reassemble with SS allen screws and OEM kits.

I intend to do the same procedure here in the next couple weeks on the GSX carbs. I do follow to the letter on just about everything, but one place I feel deviation is needed is to replace every screw in these carbs with quality SS screws, preferably allen heads. Including the butterfly screws.

I will say that I don't work on salt water skis as we just don't have them here so that might be why I haven't had to mess with corroded throttle shafts.

I had stripped screws in one of the carbs on my Speedster, and I wound up buying an impact screwdriver from Harbor Freight for like $10.00. That’s one of the best $10.00 I ever spent! I use it all the time for stubborn screws now... Also, OSD has stainless replament screw kits if you need them.

Try the impact driver before you drill them out. One or two good taps with a hammer will break them loose 90% of the time...
