Red rectifier wire?

I'm having a strange issue with my '96 GTI with the 717 and I had read that low voltage can cause these things to do strange things. Before I start tearing down carbs, I wanted to try and temporarily disconnect the red wire, however I do not know which box this is in. Is it in the box on the port side next to the oil tank? Also, is there anything I need to know before I open this box up? Thanks

It's in the front E-box, actually the 96GTI only has one E-box, open the hood remove the storage bin, it's on the port side, held by a couple of rubber bungies, release the clip on the forward side.

I have another question. I got the e-box out, opened it up, and saw several red wires. I'm not sure which one it might be. I've attached three pictures. One is of the e-box open, the other two are me pointing to wires but I don't know which one it is I need to disconnect. Is it the one I'm holding with the connector, or the other one hooked to the main battery cable.....or none of the above? Thanks

The rectifier is that little square thing in the upper left corner of your picture, so it's the red wire coming out of that, I think it's the one you're holding in picture 2, but I really can't tell for sure because you're hand is in the way. The back of your finger is touching it in picture 3.

Ok, cool it is the one I'm holding in picture two. Thanks so much for helping. I think thats all the dumb questions I have for now lol

The 587-657-717 engines are not affected by low voltage as they have an AC ignition like a lawn mower, once it's started it runs, it's the 787 and 951 engines that won't tolerate low voltage, they are DC CDI..................

Welcome WFO Speedracer.
Where in AL. is your shop? Guys/Gals are always looking for a nice honest shop nearby.

I have two locations, one is on the outskirts of Montgomery in a small town called Wetumpka, the other shop is near Lake Martin an a town called Eclectic.

Just to be clear I do not advertise for or sell Powerballs , after having Carpal tunnel for a few years I was searching for some way to get some relief from it, the Powerball has delivered in spades, I felt it important enough to share my findings with my fellow technicians or anyone that suffered from the same condition.
