Rectifier issue????

Alright, I have my first issue with my Doo, and am looking for some insight. I bought a 2002 GTX RFI about a month ago. Prior to that, it sat in the last owners garage for 2 years winterized. I took ownership and ran it good. Changed plugs, and ran it good for the past couple weeks with no problems.

We were out this weekend, and the "12V low" started flashing on the screen. Pretty soon it wouldn't start back up. I got it home and downloaded the service manual. All fuses are good, battery was taken out and tested at the parts store and that is also good to go. So we reinstalled the battery after charging it and the voltmeter showed high 13s meaning it was charging. So we took the voltmeter off and shut it down for a few minutes. Then started it back up, voltmeter only showed 12.16v and falling. So it was charging and now its not, so something is going in and out. All connections are solid and from what I have researched, these things seem to eat rectifiers. So that is my main culprit right now. Does this sound like a rectifier issue? I don't know what else it could be. I hope to god its not the magneto or something else because then im S.O.L. Anything anyone can tell me will be much appreciated.

Start the ski, on the water hose, rev the motor to 5500rpm and check the voltage on the battery! If you get a reading over 15v it's a bad rectifier!

That is exactly what I did, multiple times. The very first time I was getting the high 13s volts. The next time I tried it, something stopped working and my volts were in the mid 12s and dropping.

well

it's one of 2 parts.

Stator OR rectifier.

check one, then the other. there's a plug your dealer has that can probe the stator in litterally 5 min and you can get a go/no go.

if the stator is good, there is an external (to the $900 MPEM) rectifier available that should bolt right in for $200 i think?

I had a ski not charging this summer, it was my stator.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH USED STATORS TRYING TO SAVE $100.00

It's not worth the stress / hassle. Suck it up for $300 new and get the right one... I got a used one that was burnt worse than mine that failed... no way was I going to spend 4 hrs putting it on to have it fail again... lost 2 weeks of summer... would have gladly paid another $100 to get a new in box one...
